Welcome to the Care Conversations with Dr Chidi.
This channel is dedicated to senior care, ageing with dignity, and supporting the people who care for older adults.
We cover key topics across the senior care journey, including ageing safely and independently at home, home care services and what families should know, caregivers (HCAs, PSWs, LPNs), family decision-making, health, mobility, memory, and quality-of-life issues in older adults, with special emphasis on Canada, and a strong focus on Alberta.
Our goal is to educate, support, and empower seniors, caregivers, and families to make informed and compassionate care decisions—especially care provided in familiar home settings.
If you care about seniors, work with seniors, or support an aging loved one, this channel is for you.
Please subscribe and join the conversation.

WHAT MOST FAMILIES MISUNDERSTAND ABOUT HOME CARE
Most families think home care is just “help around the house.” That misunderstanding causes more stress than the care itself.
I see it often, families wait until things are already breaking down before they bring in support. By then, expectations are high, time is tight, and emotions are running even higher.
Here’s what many people get wrong:
● Home care is not a quick fix, it’s a process. Trust, routines, and consistency take time to build for both the client and the caregiver.
● Independence doesn’t mean doing everything alone, good care supports independence. It doesn’t replace it. The right caregiver knows when to step in and when to step back.
● Not all care is visible. Some of the most important work is emotional in reducing anxiety, maintaining dignity, and keeping someone engaged. You won’t always “see” it, but you’ll feel the difference.
● Family involvement still matters. Caregivers don’t replace family, they support them. The best outcomes happen when communication stays open and expectations are realistic.
● More hours doesn’t always mean better care, what matters is the right plan, the right fit, and consistency.
Overloading care can sometimes create dependency instead of support.
The reality is, home care works best when it’s introduced early, not when things are already in crisis.
If there’s one thing to take away: home care is a partnership, not a service you switch on and off.
At what point do you think families should start considering home care, and what usually holds them back?

Aging with Dignity: What That Really Looks Like
We say it often — “Everyone deserves to age with dignity.”
But what does that actually mean?
It’s not just about growing older.
It’s about growing older with respect, autonomy, and compassion.
Aging with dignity looks like:
• Being spoken to with respect — not patronized.
• Having choices in daily routines — what to wear, what to eat, when to rest.
• Receiving care that protects privacy.
• Managing health conditions without losing identity.
• Being seen as a person — not a diagnosis.
For families caring for a loved one with dementia or chronic illness, dignity can become fragile. Time pressures, stress, and burnout can unintentionally shift care from person-centered to task-centered.
But dignity lives in small things:
• Knocking before entering a room
• Explaining what you’re doing before assisting
• Maintaining grooming and appearance
• Listening — even when speech is limited
As healthcare professionals and caregivers, our role is not just to extend life — but to preserve humanity within it.
Because aging is inevitable.
Losing dignity shouldn’t be.

What 2025 Taught Me About Risk, Resilience, Faith in God and Rebuilding
Early this year, my wife and I made a bold decision. We resigned from well-paying doctor roles in the Middle East, bought one-way tickets to Canada, and landed with 2 kids, no job, no guaranteed income, and no promises—just faith and conviction.
Unfortunately, the business we had built with the expectation that it would sustain us during our transition took a wrong turn. What followed was unexpected: thousands of dollars in debt, the risk of reputational damage, and the collapse of a venture we had worked hard to build.
Suddenly, we had no income, no business, mounting financial pressure, and our reputation at stake. To make matters more challenging, I had already decided long before arriving in Canada to step away from clinical medicine and focus on business. There were moments when the pressure almost pushed me back into paid employment.
Thankfully, we had some savings that kept us afloat. Then came the hard part—job searching, managing clients from the failed venture, raising funds to process refunds, and rebuilding from scratch.
I intentionally scaled back my online presence to focus on personal growth, clarity, and family. I am not the same person who entered 2025.
It was a difficult year, but by God’s grace, we are ending it stronger than we arrived. I have been completely transformed, and my wife is also making steady progress in her professional journey.
I truly believe the worst of the storm is behind us, and we are on the verge of better things as we move into 2026.
In 2026, Vidan Medical Staffing Agency, a subsidiary of Vidan Workforce Solutions Ltd. (Canada), will fully take off. Our mission remains unchanged: rapid and reliable matching of healthcare professionals, leveraging technology, to opportunities across the entire clinical spectrum—from Healthcare Aides and PSWs to LPNs, RNs, and Physicians.
Our branding team has also developed a new logo for the company.
See you in 2026. I look forward to sharing some of the hard truths I learned in business in 2025, as well as emerging opportunities for healthcare workers in Canada and beyond.
Stay tuned.
Happy New Year in advance.

📌 *YOU ONLY WIN PRIZES FOR THE ACTIONS YOU TAKE, NOT OPPORTUNITIES YOU NOTICE*
I received this mail from Andrew Tate today:
“The day before WW1 most of the European men in the world were living just another day.
The day before WW2 most of the men of the world were living just another day.
They all saw the signs,
They all read the newspapers,
And I'm sure a few of the perspicacious among them,
FELT that the world was headed in a dark direction.
But most of them didn't do anything different,
The majority of them just carried on with their life, listening to their wife say "It will be okay"
Most men are victims of inaction.
Inaction has caused more unneeded deaths than action ever had.
It wouldn't have been easy to pack up and move,
It wouldn't have been easy or comfortable to do.
The German man who sold everything with the idea to travel to America in 1912,
He was labeled crazy,
His wife probably thought it was a bad idea and made it hard for him to commit to the decision,
But in hindsight,
He played a good move.
Many men thought it,
Many men tried but were convinced by their wife, family or coworkers to stop.
Only a few men DID.
You don't win any prizes for noticing things.
You win prizes for ACTING on what you notice.”
******************+************
Edit:
I'm sure many of you reading this now notice where the country and future of medical practitioners is heading to. Definitely not in the right direction.
You can wish all you can, philosophize all you can, gossip all you can about the presidency and your hospital CMDs.
Only action will save you.
Today we have presented you with an excellent opportunity to relocate to Oman with 100% guarantee of a job, which no other pathway can offer but what do you do?
1. Second guess yourself
2. Complain about the paltry registration fee.
3. Gossip about the CEO and how greedy he is with your friends and colleagues.
4. Count how much the company is making instead of focusing on what is in it for you.
Just know that time is passing and everyday deals are being made.
Every person that signs up before you reduces your chances of ever getting in.
Stop sitting on your hand and make the move now.
There is nothing special about you that will give you a different outcome continuing to stay where you are now.
So just sign up and take the job in Oman. It is clearly better than where you are now.

*RELOCATION IS A PERSONAL DECISION, NOT A GROUP DECISION.*
Back when I was a surgical resident in Nigeria, we sat together in call rooms and lounges bemoaning the state of our life, finances and the health system.
As we did all these things, right among us, were people making moves to relocate and holding it close to their chest.
After a while, I moved from a particular hospital to another one and one day I met an old colleague from the previous hospital and he was just at the edge of leaving the country, maybe few days from that day or so.😳
People don’t discuss these things with you on a normal.
Often they are afraid and unsure if they will succeed or not, so they don’t want to be laughed at if it fails.
Others don’t want to be jinxed.
There was this doctor that had a friend in the same hospital and a bit close, while he was working to relocate via our company, he never breathed it to his colleague and even though I knew both of them, we understand confidentiality and so every thing stayed that way.
If you are waiting to see people around you making moves before you make a move yourself, what you will hear is that they resigned or stopped coming to work. Finish
And while you are trying to make sense of it, they would be switching flights or onboarding abroad into their new work place.
Some go as far as changing their numbers and disconnecting completely from everyone that knows them.
I don’t blame them, it’s their life.
It’s you I blame that was waiting for group validation.
Why am I writing this?
Within 1 week of us opening the door, if you know how many doctors that have signed up quietly and noiselessly, you won’t be waiting for trumpet to sound before you do what you need it to do if this opportunity aligns with your aspirations.
On the first night of this announcement, over 20 people signed up instantly before morning.
Now Count from then till now.
This Saturday, I will be having a private meeting with GPs that have signed up and on Sunday with the Nurses to ensure everything is going smoothly.
You, yes you waiting for that your WhatsApp group to collectively agree before you sign up, you may just be shocked when the people you are waiting for their validation start exiting the group quietly and stop responding to your chats.
Take your destiny in your hands today and stop waiting for a congregation to stand behind you before you take a stand.
Good evening.
