I'm Brian Haidet - PhD in Materials Science, but I'd also describe myself as artist, maker, and Hawaiian shirt enthusiast. On this channel, You'll find my side projects and favorite physics demos - I hope you enjoy!
I love the way the Open Sauce booth application process works. The reward for your project getting accepted to the show is tickets and access, so it's already attracting the kind of people who are way into maker stuff and themselves want to learn more. But on top of that, the application is literally a pitch for your project, so the event also ends up selecting the individuals who are most passionate and best at *communicating* their projects with the interested public. The net result here is a LOT of cool booths.
This was my favorite project from last year - all hand-cut wooden mechanical calculator. AWESOMENESS built by William Gerhardinger edit: didn't realize there was a VIDEO! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0pJS...
I'll be there again this year! San Francisco, July 17th-19th!
Last year at Open Sauce, I was on this very fun panel with an awesome group of YouTube creators - maker channels, and as of right now, everybody on that stage has a hot dog video except me. I spent a couple months this winter trying to figure out how to "grill" a hot dog in 10 seconds - the thermal conductivity actually makes this extremely difficult! UNFORTUNATELY, the smoke coming off the heating element in this picture tells a lot of the story... I plan to return to this, maybe in the future once I have a CNC?
If YOU want to be the next to nerd snipe me for months, feel free to say hi at Open Sauce this year! July 17th-21st
If you want to anti-nerd snipe me and know of a thermal adhesive that works on anodized aluminum , is electrically insulating, and survives up to the melting point of aluminum, PLEASE tell me here or in person.
Hey everybody! it's time to get your tickets to Open Sauce 2026! I had a blast there last year and I cant wait to be back. Lots of your favorite YouTube creators will be there (I'll be on stage talking about electricity!), but my personal favorite part is probably the exhibits - SO many people who have built so many cool things and are super enthusiastic to teach and show off their work. I love the excitement for engineering and science.
Informative and poignant. Everybody should see this! I expect a lot of my subscribers are also Hank’s subscribers so now you’ve seen the thumbnail twice!
