The German public broadcaster has adjusted its coverage of the riots in Belfast following a furious reaction from billionaire Elon Musk. The German broadcaster ZDF confirmed that a demand from Musk's lawyer has been complied with.

The broadcaster had linked Musk to a ‘hunt for migrants’ in Northern Ireland. The unrest there followed the arrest of a man from Sudan, who is suspected of a violent knife attack. Images of this, including AI-generated material, circulated online and caused a great stir.

Through his platform X, Musk shared, among other things, a call to protest from far-right activist Tommy Robinson. In doing so, Musk called for loud demonstrations. After being linked to the riots as a result, the billionaire accused ZDF of spreading lies. He announced legal action and received support from the German anti-immigration party AfD, an anti-immigration party for which he had previously expressed support. "Slander must not go unpunished. Don't let them get away with it just like that," wrote AfD leader Alice Weidel on X.

ZDF subsequently acknowledged that some of the wording was potentially misleading and removed part of the broadcast.
