i wasn’t going to make a post abt this, but my comments on others channels keep getting deleted for some reason 😭💕

lizzie not being physically book accurate isn’t the most concerning part of this all. sure, i understand being upset that she’s not as she was originally described, but i think it’s upsetting that she’s the *only* diversity within the main cast. to me, it’s a little baffling to take one of the most controversial characters, one already viewed negatively due to her meanness and outspokenness, and make her the only poc. this directly feeds into harmful stereotypes that women of color already have to face. i’m personally not against lizzie being a poc, but i think in order for harmful implications to be avoided they NEEDED to add diversity to positive roles as well. like to me, claire and hughie could’ve easily been black and that would’ve balanced it out some. idk it just feels like the equivalent of the new harry potter series making snape black, there’s so many iffy things going deeper than just physical looks that need to be talked about.

all this said, though, i personally am not a poc so if ive missed anything or am just completely wrong please let me know. i’m so up to discuss about this !!
