Why are we always so defensive? If someone says "I like XYZ stuff" doesn't mean they hate "ABC stuff". But this is a pattern I always notice with my post and with other people's posts as well. Not everything is a competition.

Not everything needs to be scrutinized. Not everything is about you. Not all of your opinion matters.
Sometimes popular trends in the world can go in a way that you don't like but that doesn't mean it's a personal attack on your personal life. Social media literally removed the boundary between the personal and private. So we tend to mix them up.
I can give an example that recently happened to me. I read an article in the wall street journal that many fashion brands have claimed that pink clothes are not selling anymore, nude and pastel or neons are going out faster than pink. The post was about how fashion trends change, I didn't even mention if I liked it or not. Oh my god! Just for this post the amount of hatred I got as if I'm telling people that you should not wear pink anymore.
Now please think how silly it is and how insignificant and meaningless our habit of becoming defensive can become. Our opinion matters but in the right direction. Our United voice can be used against fascism, environmental issues, sexism, etc.
Not on what some random people are posting or writing on their public forum. People are allowed to like music, films, and books that they don't like, and people are allowed to dislike their favorite band, favorite clothing items, favorite color, or food. It's not a war against your favorite stuff. Chill!
