The Saudi Heritage Commission just announced an incredible discovery in Al-Mahd (Madinah region): a rock inscription from the early Islamic period written in the ancient Hijazi script.The use of the name Umar ibn al-Khattab—the second Caliph of Islam who ruled from 634 CE to 644 CE—is monumental.

The text translates to:
📜 "Allah is the Guardian of Umar ibn al-Khattab in this world and the Hereafter. There is none worthy of worship except Allah."

Words carved into basalt stone over a thousand years ago, standing the test of time, wind, and desert sand. The Saudi Heritage Commission recently uncovered this beautiful piece of early Islamic period in Al-Mahd. Written in the elegant, flowing Hijazi script, it’s a powerful reminder of how deeply rooted these declarations of faith are in the geography of the Hijaz. 🕋✨
