I test camera gear in real-world scenarios, sharing my experiences, thoughts, and comparisons with gear for vloggers using action cameras and pocket cameras. I also share practical filming tips so you get the most out of your cameras.

The goal is to help you make videos without your gear getting in the way and becoming a faff. Striving for convenience and ease means you'll actually be more likely to go out and make the damn video.

Do you use your action cameras and/or Osmo Pocket 3/4 to shoot photography?

In the comments, let us know why, either way.

I know I always say cameras are tools and do different jobs, but if all you could have was one DJI camera, which would it be, and why?

When your Osmo Pocket 3 footage (shot in the Normal colour profile) looks flat and a bit lifeless with washed-out skin tones, you’re not wrong to think this should and could look way better.

There are three main things that matter the most if you want that high-quality finish. I break it down properly (with examples and a simple fix) in the full video here:

It doesn't take much, but when you get these three things on point, you'll get the results you expect with your Osmo Pocket 3.

You know all that vlog footage you shot today?

This is a friendly reminder to go offload it, organise it, and start editing it before you forget what the hell you filmed, and what video you wanted to make.

I do this for every video. But more to the point, I organise everything so I can come back to it later (long after the project is finished) and know what it is.

The [number]-b-roll clips are just generic fill-ins like establishing shots and transition shots, so I don't tend to label them in a detailed way (just to save time).

But if there's a specific b-roll clip that I definitely want to use and not forget about it, I add a description to it.

It also helps that I film my vlogs in a linear way, so organising is very quick.

This is the video that these files created: https://youtu.be/7vR0RBmDLrA

I deleted two clips, so in the end, there were 34 clips altogether. Aside from maybe 2 or 3 b-roll clips, I used everything for the video.

If you said to me, “Tamara, I just feel behind.” This is what I’d tell you:

You’re very much looking at where other people are, and you’re basing your timeline and progress on that. So actually, you’re not behind.

If you started making videos 5 weeks ago, stop comparing yourself to someone who’s on Year 6. Learn from them, but don’t compare yourself to them (or anyone, for that matter).

You’re only behind when your timeline is based on someone else’s.

Keep showing up, keep doing the reps and focus on the progress you make every day. Each step taken gets you closer to achieving your goal.

The distance between where you are and how far away from meeting your goal you are, is the only thing you should be measuring your success on.

You know when you shoot in the Normal colour profile with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, it looks a bit dull and washed out (skin tone can also look grey instead of rich)?

I apply a tone boost adjustment to have richer colours and more depth.

You can do the same with my Normal Tone Boost LUT, which works on DJI action cameras too (Action 4/5/6, Nano).

I also included my exact camera settings so you don't have to guess correct exposure and white balance to get the best image quality.

(P.S. This image is a frame from Pocket 3 footage, with the LUT applied and without.)

Same clip. Same lighting. Shot in the Normal colour profile.

The only difference? I applied my Tone Boost LUT.

If your Osmo Action 6 footage (or Pocket 3, Action 4/5 Pro, Nano) looks a bit flat or washed out in Normal, this is the step I take to get a richer look.

I’ve been asked a lot about the look of my footage when shooting with a DJI camera (like Osmo Pocket 3, Action 6, Action 5 Pro, Action 4, or Nano) in the Normal colour profile.

Since it kept coming up, I turned my adjustments into a LUT you can use too.

Ever notice how the “I hate being on camera” thing isn’t actually about the camera?

The trigger is hitting record or watching yourself back.

Then you think: “I look awful.” “I sound dumb.” “Everyone will judge.”

You end up feeling anxious, embarrassed, and disheartened, which means you avoid filming, you over-edit, you re-record 30 times, and never post the video.

Then that results in no reps, no confidence, and so the loop continues.

If this is you, I feel you.

And there's nothing wrong with you. You’re just stuck in a pattern. And as much as you might not want this solution, it's the only one:

You have to show up and post the video anyway.

It's the only way to break the loop and make progress towards confidence and feeling at peace with who you are, without trying to be "perfect".

Whether it’s what you believe about yourself, or what you think others believe about you, you have stop the negative self-talk.

Once you retrain your thoughts to be fully accepting of who you are, you’ll experience immense freedom to do whatever you have the desire to do, despite your 'flaws' or what others ‘might’ think of you.

No one’s perfect, so stop putting pressure on yourself to show up perfectly.
