On Wednesday, July 1st, Johann Zarco visited doctor Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet in Lyon to assess the current condition of his left knee.

After the crash in Catalunya, the initial MRI scans were performed while the knee was still heavily inflamed, making it difficult to accurately assess the full extent of the injury. As the inflammation subsided, further examinations provided a clearer picture and a more positive outlook than initially expected, with the injuries first suspected no longer confirmed. The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is healing well, while the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), initially believed to be torn, is also showing encouraging signs of recovery. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), remains torn.

Over the past few weeks, the French rider had been waiting for a burn injury to heal before undergoing surgery. In the meantime, he continued training and made steady progress, making a non-surgical approach a viable option.

Following the medical team's advice, and with doctors reporting being impressed by Johann Zarco's progress, the rider will not undergo surgery and will instead continue with a rehabilitation programme focused on recovery and strengthening. Subject to further medical assessments, the objective is for Zarco to return to the race track in September.

The Castrol Honda LCR Team is pleased to confirm these positive developments and looks forward to seeing Johann Zarco back on track when the time comes.

📣 LCR former rider Cal Crutchlow to replace Johann Zarco at the #ItalianGP 🇮🇹

A reunion for the present, with memories from the past, as the British rider joined #LCR in 2015 and raced with us for six seasons. Together, we achieved a total of 12 podium finishes, including three victories. His first win came in Brno in 2016, marking the first #MotoGP victory in LCR’s history 🏆

LCR would like to thank Cal for his availability, commitment, and willingness to ride the Honda RC213V 🤝

Meanwhile, the whole team sends its full support to Johann Zarco during this time, wishing him strength and a smooth recovery 💪❤️

On Tuesday 19th May, Johann Zarco visited doctor Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet in Lyon, a world-renowned consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Centre Orthopédique Santy in Lyon, France, specializing in the management of knee ligament injuries and sports trauma, to further assess his physical condition.

Following a thorough examination, it is estimated that he will need to wait a couple of weeks before undergoing surgery for the damage to his ligaments, allowing the initial trauma and other injuries to his knee some time to heal before the procedure.

Following the surgery, a detailed recovery plan will be established, allowing the medical team to evaluate a possible timeline for his return.

The whole Castrol Honda LCR team is in close contact with Johann Zarco and will continue to provide updates as the date gets closer.
