From buildings to roads, and now, garden design.
At this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, 2022 Earthshot Prize Finalist Low Carbon Materials helped bring a world-first carbon-negative concrete mix to life, combining oyster shells, calcined clay and their carbon-negative construction materials.
The concrete is featured in the Silver medal-winning Asthma + Lung UK Breathing Space Garden. After Chelsea, the garden moves to its permanent home at Breathing Space in Rotherham, supporting lung rehabilitation and patient wellbeing.
Designed by Angus Thompson Design with Getjar and Tarmac, the installation shows how the materials shaping our future can combine innovation, performance and design.
Is this what the future of building materials looks like?

Would you add low-emission wool to your wardrobe? Now you can.
Sea Forest, a 2023 Earthshot Prize Finalist, has partnered with Theory to pioneer a lower-carbon approach to wool production. By introducing their SeaFeed™, a supplement based on red seaweed, into sheep diets, the initiative has achieved a methane reduction of around 43%.
Why does this matter? Raw materials are one of fashion’s biggest sources of emissions. Tackling impact at this stage is critical to transforming the industry.
This collaboration is an exciting step forward in the fashion industry and shows measurable impact, tackled at scale.
