🧊 What's Changing w/ Ice Application After Injury?
For years, the advice has been clear... apply ice right away to reduce pain and swelling after an injury.

And while that approach is still widely accepted in many cases, NEW research is emerging.

Ice is effective for short-term pain relief and swelling control.
Its long-term impact on overall healing is less clear, with some evidence suggesting overuse may slow recovery.

👉 The updated perspective:
Acute injuries – icing immediately can help alleviate discomfort and reduce swelling.
Moderation matters – Short sessions (15–20 minutes with a barrier) are best.
Beyond the first days – Use ice strategically, especially after activity, to manage lingering discomfort.

Ice isn't disappearing, and it remains a valuable tool.
The shift is toward using it thoughtfully, as part of a broader recovery plan.

💭 What hurts more—the body or the mind?
Physical therapy isn't just about strengthening muscles or regaining mobility. True recovery recognizes the mental health impact of injury. When athletes lose their outlet, their confidence, or their role on the team, it can create feelings of isolation, frustration, and doubt.

That is why PTs should lead with empathy. Healing the body starts with supporting the whole person.

Here’s how:
✔️ Create a safe space – Let athletes share their fears and frustrations without judgment.
✔️ Check in consistently – Ask about more than pain levels. How are they coping with the process?
✔️ Help them feel seen and supported – Celebrate small wins, remind them of progress, and highlight their resilience.

When physical therapy includes emotional support, athletes don’t just recover—they return stronger, both mentally and physically. Empathy builds trust, and trust fuels healing.

👩‍⚕️ Four nurses changed the future of rehabilitation in 1894.
They founded the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in Britain, setting off a global movement.
Their leadership inspired nations to recognize physical therapy as a profession (not to mention how many doors were opened for generations of future therapists)!

Patient care often starts with bold ideas and committed people. We're proud to say that we still reflect their vision: accessible, skilled care for every patient.

Boom, Pop, Pang... Why Is My Shoulder Clicking?
Ever notice your shoulder click or pop when you move it?
Occasional clicking in the shoulder is common and often harmless.

It can be caused by tendons moving over bone or small air bubbles in the joint. But when the clicking is paired with pain, weakness, or stiffness, it may point to an underlying issue such as:

Rotator cuff irritation

Labrum tears

Impingement

Joint instability

That’s when it’s time to get checked.
A therapist can evaluate movement patterns, pinpoint the cause, and guide you with strengthening and mobility work to reduce irritation and protect the joint.

Don’t ignore it!
Your body’s clicks may be sending you a signal.
