We're gonna be trying to stream tonight when I get home from my grandma's house in a couple of hours, shouldn't be too crazy late today. Not gonna be doing a radio show, going to be doing something else, probably will be a lot more interesting for most folks. Was bummed our last radio show didn't do very well with views comparatively to the usual radio numbers. Especially since it was one of the best episodes we've listened to, and I thought the first half had some pretty valuable stuff shared, but oh well. Thats Youtube for ya! I can't wait to be done with night shifts, I have a stream I want to do tonight on protestantism & Tucker Carlson. But I wont be ready to go until around 11:15PM EST. Christianity is not a rubber stamp that God gives you here and now, to approve you for the "good place" after you die. It is not a checklist of essential opinions or beliefs you must possess in order to be on the good team.
Christianity is the lived experience of a fallen human being, who through his submission & obedience to Christ's commandmants unites his human nature to Christ's divine nature, and is thus truly and literally transformed (physically, mentally, and spiritually) by that union. Christianity leads us to salvation (Theosis) through three stages.
Its first stage: "Purification" -
removing, through ascetic labors (self denial), the hooks which the enemy has stuck into us through our repeated and habitual sinful actions. By "denying ourselves, picking up our cross and following after Christ" we are purified, cleansed, & fully emptied so that we are ready for
the second stage: "Illumination" -
Having been emptied totally by our ascetic labors, having the temple of our hearts ("Know ye not, that you are Temples of the living God?") cleansed through self denial, when we encounter Christ present in his church which is his body, we are then filled with Christ's uncreated light, we are filled with his uncreated energies and literally "enlightened". Being filled with God's energies causes...
The third and final stage in Christ's salvation/Theosis: "Sanctification"-
God's energies are Holy, divine, meaning truly and unimaginably perfect. The mere effect of a human person being touched by them sanctifies and makes holy the one being touched by them. The uncreated energies of God transform through this contact (literally being in the direct presence of God) a broken, wretched, evil, sinful human being into a glorified, sanctified, perfected human being. aka: A Saint ("Be ye therefore perfect, even as the Father in Heaven is perfect").
This is Salvation, this is eternal life in Christ. This is the Gospel, This is what God has given us fallen humans of every generation. it is not a rubber stamp. It is not a list of inspirational and sage quotes meant to make you feel like youre in the good guy club, It is not a checklist to get into the great dance club in the sky in the hereafter. It is the path laid out by Christ for sinners to attain healing and transformation, salvation is a process that MUST begin now, on earth, otherwise how can you expect God to do it for you once your time has been squandered? You begin now, or you dont begin at all.
Protestantism approaches Christ, the Church (The Body of Christ), The Scriptures, even The very Gospel itself, with a chainsaw. They want so desperately to find, and cut away whatever teachings, traditions, and practices the Christian Church offers them which they themselves deem "unnecessary" to attain that desired rubber stamp (i.e. their assurance of "salvation"... i.e. "what do I need to do or think or believe, to get my comfy cozy feelings here on earth for knowing that once I die im in the good club?"... "What do i absolutley need, so that I can just chill knowing its all good?")
This is a foreign religion. This is not the practiced, lived faith of the apostles. It is utter madness. It is utter foolishness, pride, and forgive me, idiocy. The idiocy of a petulant 2 year old child who thinks he knows better than his parent and can pick and choose what rules are necessary and must be obeyed, and what rules his parents give him that can be ignored, reinterpreted, relitigated.
It is a position that can only exist due to an ignorance of Christianity, the teachings of the Early Church Fathers, the handed down traditions of the Church Christ gave us... it literally is only tenable to hold to if you dont know about a million things about Christianity as it has existed throughout history, and especially during the first 1000 years.
This is why it is dying. Not because they dont have beautiful buildings like some other self professed christian faiths, not because they don't have fancy hats like others do, but because they don't have the very thing which transforms a human soul from utter degradation, from the very edge of the pit of hell and death of the soul, to perfection, and life eternal through Union with God.
You, as a fallen human, do not have the right, nor the authority to approach God with your own checklist and chainsaw, and start throwing away traditions, doctrines, practices, all because in your hubris you've decided you know enough to know they aren't necessary. This hubris is what is shared in common by all heretics. It is a Spiritual blindness and delusion, that is itself the fruit of unrepentant sin, and is only possible due to a lack of the most foundational, important, and necessary of Christian virtues: humility.
You can read the Bible on your own island all you'd like, but without the face to face experience of the living God, without drinking from the cup which Christ has given us to show us the way, the narrow path, the one which leads to life, the best you will get is temporary & illusory comfort, nice feelings that all is well in your soul, until a brush with death shakes you from this opiate haze of delusion and makes you realize "SOMETHING IS WRONG" "IM MISSING SOMETHING".
To begin the Christian life, to even make a beginning step, every person needs two essential things: Humility, and Faith. The humility and faith that a child has when being instructed by its father. A 2 year old does not cross his arms and tap his toe expecting his father to rationally explain to him all aspects and justifications of why he aught do as he's told! He obeys, because he knows his position in the hierarchy of his family, he knows intuitively that his father loves him, and is above him in authority, and so he can rest easy in his obedience knowing he will be instructed rightly.
This is how you MUST approach Christ, the Church which is his body, and the Gospel which is his Salvific Truth. Come as a little child (which you are), and HEAR... LEARN... and then, once you have heard, once you have learned, then by all means ask your questions and tap your toes and cross your arms if you must...
Who knows! maybe youre assumptions were right, and St. John Chrysostom and St. Ignatius & St Maximus & all the early Christian fathers were wrong. Maybe all you need is the Bible and to say you believe in Jesus and youre good to go?! Maybe!
But staying in ignorance will never help you find that answer, ignoring and writing off the historic church & her traditions will never help you to attain a real true peace of heart that defies all understanding, or the ever elusive assurance of your salvation. It will never help you build a relationship with Christ. Because Christ is not some ambiguous opinion you hold, he's not some mere historical figure in the pages of a book, he is the living God, alive now, reigning over all creation on his heavenly throne at the right hand of God the Father, and his earthly body is RIGHT HERE, on the earth, it is the Church which he has given us, which is the meeting point of heaven and of earth, the human body, divinely touching God through his body and blood in the Cup of Salvation, the Eucharist, the medicine of immortality.
You cannot possibly know for certain whether or not the church that has endured until now, the church established on the apostles and the blood of her martyrs & the succession of bishops from the time of the first apostles until this very second is right, or wrong, until you have actually seen what she offers. As one cell of that body, I can tell you from experience, what she offers is the very Christ himself.
