I learned slap bass totally wrong

I had my thumb pointed down, used huge movements in my right hand and had no idea how to use compression, EQ and setup to get a great slap tone.

This was fine for playing Higher Ground, Can't Stop and other Chili Peppers bass lines but the second I tried to play anything by Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten or any modern slapper, I was completely stuck.

I had to spend a solid year completely relearning my slap technique.
