This pen was gifted to me at 15 years old, after I'd just been promoted to Crew Trainer at McDonald's.
Working at McDonald’s gave me a lot.
- I learned that I was capable of running a kitchen producing $1,000s worth of food per hour. - I discovered the power of systems. - I also discovered that I love working.
In fact, every job I’ve ever had I’ve thrown myself into.
You might be surprised to know that I also worked as a Pizza Hut delivery driver, a pest controller, a door to door appointment setter, a phone sales person, a barman, a waiter and a shelf stacker.
I’ve never felt any job is beneath me and I have respect for anyone who enthusiastically gets their job done.
Finding this pen in a drawer reminded me that everything I know about running a business, I first learned behind a McDonald's counter.

Not everything goes to plan. In a bid to impress my 7yo daughter, I tried to show her how I could still skateboard. This resulted in a broken wrist and emergency surgery. :( Hope you’re finishing the year on a higher note and you’re grateful for the little things - like having two working arms! Happy new year.
