The Shadow Mansion was never truly silent, but the late-night battle formation drawing and war strategy writing came close. Ayame sat at her desk, the soft glow of a single candle illuminating a mountain of paperwork. Her eyes felt heavy—that dull, throbbing weight of being the perfect strategist,the unbroken warrior —but her pen kept moving despite her weakness A floorboard creaked. Ayame didn't look up. She knew the rhythm of those footsteps.The deep steady calm thud she heard too often. "You should be asleep You insist on sleeping too late too often!," she said, her voice hoarse from disuse and exhaustion and thirst.
Giyu Tomioka stood in the doorway. He looked as he always did—unreadable stoic calm emotionless—but his gaze lingered on the dark circles under her obsidian black eyes . He didn't offer words of comfort or a lecture on her bad habit . He knew her well enough to know she was too stubborn. Instead, he walked over and placed a small, wrapped bundle on her desk,still warm. He had noticed she had not been there for dinner that day,probably because of training .So he had quietly packed away some food. Ayame paused, finally looking up. "What is this?" "Chicken Katsu curry," Giyu replied simply. "You missed dinner again ." She felt a small pang of shock and warmth in her chest. She had been so stressed and tired that she’d completely forgotten to eat. As she unwrapped the meal, she noticed it was wrapped carefully and neatly like his own handiwork . Giyu didn't leave. He pulled up a spare stool and sat beside her. He didn't speak; he just began picking up the finished reports, organizing them into neat stacks and filing them into the correct bins. She immediately protested insisting on completing her own work no matter what! They don't need "I love you" when they have "I’ll do the filing so you can eat and I'll save food when you forget for the seventh time a week" Ten minutes later, the silence was broken by a soft breathing . Ayame had fallen asleep mid-bite, her forehead resting on the desk,her cheek pillowed by overwork. The stoic I can do everything facade crumbled under the weight of exhaustion. Giyu froze, his hand hovering over a paper. He looked at her—really looked at her—taking in her soft satin black hair that shaded her face,her soft vulnerable soul hiding under the stoicism Very carefully, as if handling a fragile blade, he draped his mismatched haori over her shoulders.The weight of it's warmth settled on her shoulders as she nuzzled her face into it as if recognizing the care and love in the all too familiar scent He didn't wake her.He didn't speak. He simply sat back down in the dim light and continued her paperwork, his handwriting mimicking hers as best he could, ensuring that when she woke up, her burden would be a little less heavier.Two souls falling in love One asleep ;One awake Both stoic Both too calm to possibly fall in love! But the universe has a funny way of making impossible things possible !
(As dawn amd Shinobu peeks from outside the door,and sees two warriors fast asleep,one in a mismatched haori and one while struggling through mismatched handwriting ,Let's hope she won't tease them too hard)
