PART 01: BUILDING ON SLOPE AREA

It's no accident that people build on slopes.There are different reasons why people build on slopes
1.The views
One can enjoy the clear sky views above and uninterrupted lines of sight for miles in some cases
2.The landscaping
For many the main appeal of having a home on an incline is the striking aesthetics it presents,which includes the opportunity for breathtaking landscaping.
3.The space
Lots with steep slopes allow for the extra space of a walkout basement that saves as another floor of the house.

When creating basements on sloped terrain ,the walls are often subject to a lot of force from the surrounding banks of land and therefore becoming retaining walls.
Structural engineer will need to be involved in the design of these structures and detail design stage is important to ensure good waterproofing.
By definition Retaining wall is a structure designed and constructed to withstand lateral pressure of the soil or hold back soil materials.The lateral pressures could also be due to liquid pressure and other granular materials behind the retaining wall structure.
