Dangote just backed Museveni’s ban on unprocessed minerals and pledged an East African Oil refinery. Is this the definitive end of Africa being a 'raw material' colony?

🌐 Legend Internet is making a move right now that i think is worth talking note of

If you haven't heard of Legend Internet Plc β€” that’s kind of the point.

They are quiet. Small. Listed on the NGX. They make modest revenue, pay generous dividends, and don't make noise.

But they just made an announcement today, something that could change how i view the company(epsecially because there financial statements often looks messy).

Well, they are Proposing merging with Spectranet.
Yes. The Spectranet you know. One of Nigeria's biggest broadband providers.
And Legend β€” the smaller, publicly listed company β€” is the vehicle driving this deal.

Why does this matter?

Let's be honest. Legend on its own is not a threat to anyone.
₦1.19 billion in revenue. Modest growth. A company that pays out 84% of its profit as dividends rather than reinvesting aggressively.

That is not the profile of a company trying to conquer the internet market.
But that's not what this is about.

Legend is not using its size. It is using its status.
Being publicly listed on the NGX is the key. It gives them access to capital markets, regulatory credibility, and a structure that a private company like Spectranet cannot easily create on its own.

Spectranet brings the subscribers, the infrastructure, and the market presence.
Legend brings the listed vehicle.

*Together, they are targeting a combined market cap of ₦80 billion.*

And then there is Starlink.

This merger is not happening in a vacuum.

Starlink is already in Nigeria. It is growing. And it is coming after exactly the kind of customers that Spectranet and Legend serve β€” middle class Nigerians who are tired of unreliable internet.

The only way to compete with Starlink is scale.

More infrastructure. More coverage. Lower costs per customer. Stronger balance sheet.

A merged Legend-Spectranet entity gives them a fighting chance.
Separately? They are sitting ducks.

*What should you be watching?*

If this merger closes by Q2 2026 as planned, you are looking at a completely different company on the NGX.

New valuation. New revenue base. New competitive positioning.
The dividend-heavy, slow-growth Legend you knew before will be gone.
What replaces it could be one of the most interesting telecom plays on the exchange.

Watch the merger completion. Watch the new financials. And watch how the market reprices this stock once the deal is done or even now the deal is announced.

Small company. Big move. Bigger story.

But the question remains, Can they beat Starlink?

Stay sharp, stay safe and invest wisely.

🌾 Big One Loading This Sunday!

This Sunday, October 19th, my friends β€ͺ@greentickerwarrior‬ and @CharlesBivin will be hosting a Twitter Space with Chuka Mordi, the CEO of Ellah Lakes Plc β€” one of the few publicly listed companies in Nigeria focused on agriculture and competing with the likes of Presco and Okomu Oil

It’s not every day you get to hear directly from a CEO on the real opportunities and challenges in Nigeria’s agribusiness sector β€” especially one running a listed company.

Now here’s the fun part πŸ‘‡πŸ½
If you’ve got any questions you’d love to see asked β€” about Ellah Lakes’ strategy, performance, expansion plans, or even how they’re navigating the agri value chain β€” drop them in this short form:

πŸ“©forms.gle/5j4E9S2YEV7sipfR8

Ellah Lakes is a company that many of us have high expectations for, so please do fill out the form above if you have any questions.

Let’s make sure the conversation reflects what real investors want to know.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ Happy New Month + Independence Day! πŸŽ‰October 1st always feels special β€” not just because it’s Nigeria’s Independence Day, but because it’s a reminder that freedom is a process, not an event.
That’s also how investing works.

You don’t become financially independent the day you buy your first stock.

Just like Nigeria, you’ll face ups and downs, challenges and wins.
But every step forward compounds into progress.

As I serve my NYSC year (picture attached πŸ˜‚),
I’m reminded that discipline, patience, and service are part of both nation-building and wealth-building.

So this month, challenge yourself:
πŸ‘‰ Invest consistently, no matter how small.
πŸ‘‰ Focus on the long-term, not just today’s struggles.
πŸ‘‰ Remember: financial independence is built daily, just like national independence.
Cheers to growth, discipline, and freedom β€” both for us as individuals and as a country. πŸ₯‚

Happy Independence, Nigeria. πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬

Happy new month, family. πŸ’š
