Should a deaf man with no vestibular balance drive through the chaotic streets of Jakarta, Indonesia looking for wildlife and urban nature? ABSOLUTELY!
Join me as I enjoy getting Mostly Lost in the largest city on the planet. This channel has three core elements: Mostly Lost - a series of urban adventure and discovery, The Lives of Troop Bravo - an intimate look into the daily lives and struggles of an urban troop of wild long-tailed macaques in North Jakarta, and my Wildlife Archives - video and stories from 20 years as a wildlife photographer and documentary filmmaker.
Jakarta, Indonesia is my chosen home, and I LOVE living here, among 42 million other people. There's vast beauty and incredible biodiversity in the mega city, and I aim to see it all!
*** I am an hobby ecologist. My informal observations of monkeys and other animals are a hobby. I create videos for fun and to share my knowledge. I will not accept sponsorship for my monkey watching hobby. ***

A lot of people like to comment about the conservation status of Long-tailed macaques. And, mostly, those comments are completely wrong. Yes, long-tailed macaques are currently classified as Endangered Species. No, just because you see (or see videos about) large congregations of long-tailed macaques it doesn't not mean their numbers are climbing. In fact, the more you see macaques in urban areas or tourist sites is actually an indicator of habitat loss and a desperate attempt at survival/adaptation. Research shows that the population of long-tailed macaques is in sharp decline. No, they're not going extinct quite yet - but this dwindling spiral is unsustainable. And, no, it's not just about the monkeys. The long-tailed macaques are a canary in the biodiversity coal mine.

Rick Wood's Nature Aware
I wander. It's always been my way. I've a restless sense of myself. As if, for lack of exploration, I'm not learning as much as I can about the world. So, I wander.
Sometimes near.
Sometimes far.
Sometimes where no one has ever been.
Sometimes where everyone has been but me.
I love feeling Mostly Lost. I feel alive. I feel the wonder of a new experience. I learn more about the world. I learn more about myself.
