What does resilience really look like?
Recently, Melissa Harriman owner of Bella-Rose Accessories joined Tina Jesson on the Innovative People Podcast to share a powerful story of courage, determination, and transformation.
Following a severe car accident, Melissa’s life changed dramatically. Multiple spinal surgeries affected her confidence, independence, and ability to do many of the things she once took for granted. Like many people facing life-changing circumstances, she found herself withdrawing from the world and rarely wanting to leave her home.
Everything began to change when her carer encouraged her to attend a Skilled Hands workshop.
What started as a 12-week millinery course became the beginning of a remarkable journey. Melissa went on to complete our Jewellery Making and Bag Making programmes, developing new skills, building confidence, and reconnecting with her creativity.
But perhaps the most inspiring part of her story is what happened next.
Using the skills she learned, Melissa started her own small business and successfully sold her handmade products at her children’s school fair. Her determination and entrepreneurial spirit earned her the Skilled Hands Woman of the Moment Award, recognising not only her achievements but the resilience that made them possible.
Stories like Melissa’s remind us that empowerment is about more than learning a skill. It is about rebuilding confidence, creating opportunities, and helping people discover what they are capable of achieving.
At Skilled Hands, we are proud to support women on these journeys and to celebrate their successes through initiatives such as our annual Red Carpet event, where participants showcase their work, share their stories, and inspire others.
Thank you, Melissa, for sharing your journey so openly, and thank you to Tina Jesson for hosting such a meaningful conversation.

Celebrating Emerging Talent in Broadcast Journalism Tina Jesson
We are incredibly proud to spotlight Tina Jessen, a broadcast journalism student from Nottingham Trent University, who is currently undertaking her internship with Skilled Hand Sounds — the media arm of Skilled Hands Organisation CIC.

From not knowing how to use a sewing machine… to selling internationally.
Less than a year ago, Emma Piper walked into Skilled Hands to learn bag making.
At the time, she had never used a sewing machine.
Fast forward to today, and Emma is the founder of Little Robin Threads — a growing handmade business selling beautiful bags:
• on Etsy
• at craft fairs
• in handmade shops around Nottingham
• and even to customers in the United States
What changed?
Access to skills. Support. Encouragement. And the confidence that comes from being believed in.
After completing her course at Skilled Hands, Emma didn’t just build a business — she chose to give back, volunteering her time to support others in the community starting their own journeys. Skilled Hands helped her develop a skill, but more importantly, it helped her discover what she was capable of.
Emma recently joined us on Innovative People’s Podcast, interviewed by Tina Jason, where she shared her story openly — the challenges, the growth, and what it really means to turn learning into livelihood.
This conversation is a powerful reminder that skills change lives, and when community meets opportunity, incredible things happen.

From Survival to Storytelling: Why PODCAST with SHEILA Exists
In 2020, I survived sepsis.
Following a miscarriage that was not properly handled at the hospital, sickness nearly took my life. I spent nine days in intensive care, fighting to live.
There is one moment I will never forget.
I was critically ill when I saw several doctors gathered around my bed. One stood out — she wore an all-red uniform. When I later regained strength, I thanked her and said, “I hope I see you again before I leave the hospital.”
She replied, “I don’t want to see you again, Sheila.”
Then she explained:
“Any time I am called, it means the patient is close to death. I don’t want to see you again because I want you to get better and go back home to your children.”
That moment changed me.
Right there, I decided that if I survived, I would share my life story.
Two years earlier, I had started Skilled Hands, working in the community and empowering women. But surviving sepsis gave me a deeper purpose — stories matter, and stories save lives.
That decision led to PODCAST with SHEILA.
I began by sharing my own experiences on an audio platform. Around my 12th–15th episode, a woman reached out. She had been married for years when her husband suddenly asked for a divorce and later told her he was gay. She was broken and wanted to share her story to help others.
When I was ready to host her, I could no longer reach her. Her number stopped going through. That silence stayed with me.
That was when I knew there needed to be a safe space for people to share their real-life experiences — before their voices disappear.
I believe life is a classroom. Every experience teaches us something, and often our lessons become someone else’s roadmap.
Since then, PODCAST with SHEILA has hosted 143 guests — with my 144th recording today on YouTube at 6:00pm UK time. I’ve spoken with doctors, lawyers, attorneys, magistrates, professionals, and everyday people with powerful stories I may never have met otherwise.
Together, we’ve shared 143 real-life experiences, alongside my own.
🎧 PODCAST with SHEILA is available on Spotify and YouTube, with an active community on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
Below are screenshots of reviews from guests who have shared their stories on the podcast — their reflections and the impact of being heard.
If you’ve been through something…
If you’ve learned something the hard way…
Someone else is walking that same path.
Your story could be their light.
If you’d like to share your story or partner with Podcast with Sheila, please reach out. This platform exists to turn real-life experiences into hope for others.
Because stories don’t just inform — they heal.

With God All Things Are Possible
There are moments in life when those five words feel like the only thing holding us together:
With God all things are possible.
Not because life is easy.
Not because the answers come quickly.
But because when everything else fails, God remains constant.
This short video I recently shared carries a simple message, yet it holds profound truth. It is a reminder I often need myself—especially in seasons of uncertainty, waiting, and quiet battles no one else can see.
Faith in the Middle of Reality
Faith does not mean pretending things are fine when they are not. It means choosing to believe that God is at work even when the outcome is unclear. Many of us are carrying heavy loads—family responsibilities, financial pressure, health challenges, broken relationships, unfulfilled dreams. From the outside, we may look strong, but inside, we are praying silently, hoping God sees us.
And He does.
The Bible tells us in Matthew 19:26:
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
This verse does not dismiss the difficulty of life—it acknowledges it. Some things are impossible by human standards. But God does not operate within human limitations.
When You’ve Done All You Can
There are seasons when you have done everything right—or at least everything you know how to do—and still nothing changes. You’ve prayed. You’ve worked. You’ve waited. You’ve believed. And yet, you’re still standing in the same place.
That is often where faith is refined.
Trusting God when doors are open is easy. Trusting Him when they remain closed is where growth happens. God’s silence is not His absence. Sometimes He is preparing you, sometimes He is protecting you, and sometimes He is aligning things you cannot yet see.
God’s Possibilities Are Bigger Than Our Fear
Fear has a way of shrinking our vision. It tells us:
• “You’re not qualified.”
• “You’ve missed your chance.”
• “It’s too late.”
• “You’ve failed too many times.”
But God’s voice speaks louder than fear. He specialises in turning broken pieces into testimonies. He uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things—not because they are perfect, but because they are willing.
If God can part seas, restore lives, heal hearts, and raise hope from ashes, then surely He can handle the thing that keeps you awake at night.
Faith Requires Action
Believing that all things are possible does not mean sitting still. Faith requires movement—sometimes small, trembling steps forward. It means praying and still applying. Trusting God while still showing up. Believing even when the evidence hasn’t caught up yet.
Faith is choosing obedience over understanding.
A Gentle Reminder
If you are reading this and feeling discouraged, let this be your reminder today:
• God has not forgotten you.
• Your prayers are not wasted.
• Your journey still has purpose.
• Your story is not over.
What feels impossible to you is not impossible to God.
Final Thought
With God, possibilities are not based on circumstances, timelines, or human approval. They are rooted in His power, His timing, and His love for you.
So breathe. Pray again. Try again. Trust again.
With God, all things are possible.
