Lunch with my best friend from university 🍽️

No matter how much time passes,
it always feels as if we were together just yesterday.

We spent our university days in a political debate club,
trying our best to keep up with the sophisticated discussions of our seniors.
Looking back on those days always brings back wonderful memories.

It’s amazing to see how we’ve each grown while pursuing our own paths.

And somehow, I think my most genuine smile always appears in front of my best friend’s camera 📷

どれだけ時間が空いても、
昨日まで一緒にいたかのように話せる大切な友人です。

大学時代、政治討論のサークルで、
先輩方の高度な議論を必死に追っていた日々が懐かしい🍀

Kōkua Kizuna was founded as a reflection of both kōkua and kizuna: reflecting the message that meaningful connection begins with the humility to continually and openly seek cultural understanding and support one another on a shared mission to embody the values of compassion, care and action.

Kindly explained by Murakami Sensei, 絆 (Kizuna)—the enduring bonds that unite us through hardship, through love, and through life.
“It is like one picture. The left side, 糸 (ito), is a rope or a thread. The right character, 半 (han), means half, like two separate parts. In Japan, it is a teaching about how connection with one another creates strength.” – Murakami Sensei

In Hawaiʻi, kaula, traditional braided cordage, reflects a similar philosophy. Individual strands are intentionally woven together, symbolizing our interconnectedness and shared responsibility to pūpūkahi i holomua—to unite in strength and move forward together.

Just as Kizuna and Kaula represent enduring connection, they remind us that no challenge is too great when we stand united.
