Some thoughts on the EB-1A authorship criterion.

Publishing an article on a popular blog does not usually count towards the EB-1A authorship criterion.

This applies to even industry standard blogs (one that comes to mind is about AWS and is where a lot of software engineers go to learn about AWS and ask AWS questions).

To claim the authorship criterion, you’ll most likely want to publish either peer-reviewed journal articles or articles on the top media outlet websites (think Forbes, Business Insider, etc.).

While I’ve made arguments for major blogs before, the arguments just don’t seem to work. Maybe someday they will, but I don’t recommend it at this time.

I’ll be hosting a livestream next Tuesday at 6:30 PM EDT (www.linkedin.com/events/eb-1aprofile-buildingonlin…) to go over the EB-1A Strong online course, a self-paced course with over four hours of video for those of you who want to build a strong profile for EB-1A.

We created the course with junior and mid-level professionals in mind as well as students who want to get started with EB-1A profile-building.

Senior professionals who are close to filing will also benefit from the course (although our active profile building community might be more useful, which you can learn more about on my profile under "Featured"), especially those who are working towards an extra criterion or want to strengthen the final merits of their case.

This course is meant to help you take action and not just learn about EB-1A so a lot of videos focus specifically on how to apply concepts discussed and how to profile-build (we’ll be adding more videos on profile-building for specific industries in the next few months).

The course will be continually updated with new videos every month.

Some thoughts on building acclaim and recognition for your work for EB-1A.

A lot of EB-1A clients who come to me for a consultation are senior professionals who meet two criteria but cannot show that they have had an impact on their field. This is usually because they’ve spent most of their time dedicated to contributing to their company and not so much the general field, which means that they may not be able to show that they’ve received outside recognition and acclaim for their work (something that officers do look for in final merits).

For clients who fit this profile, I tend to suggest targeting memberships and media as a way to start building acclaim and outside recognition for your work, even if you do not plan to claim memberships or media in your case. The activities that you do to target memberships and media can help strengthen your case as a whole, especially when it comes to final merits.

You can also work towards building up private recognition for your work. To build towards this kind of recognition, look into serving in high level positions at top organizations in your field (for example, being a board member at a top organization in your field). You’ll also want to regularly meet and talk to other top professionals in your field about your work as testimonials from them can serve as evidence of recognition and acclaim.
