Iconic Mexican composer Armando Manzanero is the only songwriter featured on 'Ao Vivo' who does not hail from Brazil. However, his influence across Latin America is unmistakble and during his lifetime, Manzanero toured across Latin America, particularly in São Paulo.
"At First Sight" has a special place in my heart...because I wrote it! This love song's lyrics, which I originally released in English, have been translated into Portuguese here.

The fourth track of 'Ao Vivo,' "Você e Eu," was written by Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes. It was one of the first songs the songwriting duo composed together when they began their partnership in 1960. This bittersweet song still feels and sounds relevant today.

To me, this album is not just a live recording but a celebration of Brazil's rich musical history. As we countdown the days until its release, we'll be exploring the stories these songs tell through their lyrics, which are presented here in both Portuguese and English. The first track on the album, "Brasil (Aquarela do Brasil)" was written by Ary Barroso, one of Brazil's most successful songwriters in the first half of the 20th century.
The album's second track is "Você," written by Roberto Menescal, Ray Gilbert and Ronaldo Bôscoli. The poetic lyrics of this song captures the omnipresent feeling of true love in our lives.

This recording was captured in just one night’s performance at the SFJAZZ Center’s Miner Auditorium alongside my incredible band: guitarist Leandro Pellegrino, drummer Rafael Barata, and bassist Marc Johnson. This live recording, which I consider a love letter to Brazil, explores the rich rhythmic spectrum of my beloved home country: everything from high-energy samba and bossa nova to baião and Afro-Brazilian grooves.
