Welcome to DaiRea Iku! We’re a Western-Eastern couple sharing our new life and adventures in Japan. 🚴‍♂️🇯🇵 Join us as we go exploring 2up on a motorcycle and renovate an abandoned kominka (akiya) house in Japan!

Our previous adventure was down under but we wanted to experience a place with far more culture than what Australia could ever offer. Japan ticked all the boxes so we picked a location, employed the services of a buyers agent and bought a house sight unseen. We share our house purchasing experience and take time out from the renovations to explore Japan 2up on a Suzuki Vstrom 1000 Adv, uncover magical getaways, local culture, delicious food, and breath taking scenery. We'll show you around and share practical tips for buying an akiya house and motorcycle travel, Japan life and must-see spots—and maybe beyond!

Whether you want to own a home in Japan or dream of your own Japan adventures or simply love travel stories, subscribe and ride with us! New videos every week 🌍🏍️🎥

Anyone who wants to know about our experience buying an akiya or riding a motorbike in Japan, we can discuss it here.

It's already autumn in Japan, and snow is expected to come earlier this year, we've covered the tatami house with its snow screens .

The charm of rural Japan is very tempting. If you decide to buy an akiya (home) in rural Japan, where public transportation (train or bus) is somewhat difficult, you must have a car.

A 40-minute taxi ride can cost ¥10,000, renting a car from the airport as a foreigner can cost AU$140/day, and renting from Times Car can cost AU$80/day. The cost of a 40-day car rental can be used to purchase a kei car. The cheapest kei car costs around AU$4,000.

Entering the beginning of the third month after arriving in Japan, We finally got a car as foreigners without a Zairyu Card or Residence Card.
