Tornado Stories

17th June 2026 - NWS Statement - "A Moderate Risk of Severe Thunderstorms is Forecast Today and/or Tonight. An outbreak of severe thunderstorms is expected today into tonight, with the peak threat centered over Illinois and Indiana. Several intense tornadoes, swaths of damaging gusts over 75 mph and damaging wind-driven large hail will all be possible."

There's a 4/5 risk with a high potential for significant tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. It appears that June may end up being more active than May. As you'll recall, three significant EF3 tornadoes developed across Illinois and Indiana on June 11, and there is potential for a similar event if surface conditions evolve as currently forecast.

From what I've seen, Kouts, Indiana was impacted with the heaviest damage yesterday. Certainly EF3 as a minimum, but I expect it will eventually be rated higher. Pylons downed, grain silos destroyed, at least one home swept to the basement.
