Hi, I'm Charlie White. I've been doing DIY for as long as I can remember. I'm on a personal quest to show anyone and everyone, that DIY really is Do-able! I'm self taught and now I'm here to teach you!

And just like that, it was done!

Big day today. Final (cemfloor) screed going down over the heating pipes. Then it's the bay window brickwork.

Two days down and this is the earth that remarkably has come from this small space. Today I'll be finishing off the excavation and getting the Type 1MOT in, whilst I still have the petrol powered wheel barrow.

Day 1 of the big living room dig (also known as the last piece of the underfloor heating jigsaw). It's been a pretty productive day with some excitement. We found a #hiddenstaircase in the floor. Work continues tomorrow. Rain forecast sadly but we need to crack on as I'm hoping to restrict the digger hire to 2 days. Also, the gadget to the right of the digger is possibly the most brilliant tool I've ever used - a petrol powered wheel barrow. 💥👌

My beloved DIY Dog who is heart breakingly heading into her final year(s) has decided to literally lie on a transition on the floor that is about to change. I'm gearing up for a big challenge - digging up the final floor downstairs for underfloor heating.

Can't put it off any longer as we need to finish the ground floor... and I can't pin down the guys who helped me with the kitchen, so perfect and brilliant as they were for that job. So I'm doing it myself.

Everything starts on Thursday. I'm so rubbish keeping you all up to speed on what I'm doing - and I can't thank you enough for hanging in with me up to now - but I'm going to film this one in real time to give you a week by week insight into what something like this entails. Because... why not 😉

I treated my brickwork a few weeks back to prepare it for this. Fingers crossed it works. It's brutally cold this morning.

Woke up this morning to a surprisingly chilly downstairs, to find the underfloor heating controller had unpaired from the Drayton Wiser (smart heating) hub - solid orange light where it should have been green.

In the end I had to do a factory reset of the controller and re-add it to the system at which point I realised I couldn't remember which channels related to which rooms - because the room thermostats also had to be deleted and repaired.

I wrote it down somewhere when I set up the system but it's anyone's guess where. So first big test for accessibility behind the new media wall. I had to cut the zip ties that James at Drayton had fixed in place to create an incredible neat wiring loom - to trace each channel wire back to the manifold - hoping I named each one correctly when I commissioned the system.

It's frustrating how quickly you forget how you did something. Note to self - try and be more organised and file somewhere the instructions on how you did something, so a year down the line when you've completely forgotten, you can easily remind yourself. And speaking of organisation, sorting out my chaotic tool and garage storage is this week's job.

Well, that didn't happen did it? Sorry no video yesterday. I worked on it continuously over the weekend but in the end I had given myself too much to do on a video that ended up being 40 minutes long. My fitted wardrobe build ran to 7 videos and I wanted to give you this one in one hit. Unfortunately when I hit the upload button Sunday afternoon Starlink and it's woeful upload speeds had other ideas.

So we go again this weekend. At least I have a video in the queue now and today, it's onto the next project...

I know I've been promising this for a while ... but the media bookcase video WILL be going live on Sunday afternoon. There. It's done. I've committed to that 😉 Really hope you can drop by, have a watch and let me know what you think - the build and edit for it has been emotional! #mediawall #mediabookcase #DIY
