Fahim Fazli is a man of two worlds: Afghanistan, the country of his birth, and the United States, the nation he adopted and learned to love. Fahim is also a man who escaped oppression, found his dream profession, and then paid it all forward by returning to Afghanistan as an interpreter with the U.S. Marines from 2009-2010. He came to the United States as a refugee in his teens. He enjoyed a privileged childhood until the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. As a young adult he supported the resistance and when he and his remaining family saw the opportunity they fled to Pakistan and then eventually to the United States. He moved to California with dreams of an acting career. Fahim wrote a memoir, Fahim Speaks, that was released in early 2012. "Fahim Speaks" received the 1st place for a biography from the Military Writers Society of America.

Meeting Zooey Deschanel while working on "Rock the Kasbah" in Morocco was an incredible experience. It was a great feeling to see her in action, especially after having met her sister Emily Deschanel three years earlier on the set of the TV show "Bones." Both sisters are not only talented but also share beautiful personalities—kind, sweet, and very helpful. It was a unique and rewarding experience to be involved with both a movie and a TV show that featured these remarkable sisters.

When my manager told me I’d be heading to New Mexico in one week to shoot the TV show Echo 3 during the snow season, I didn’t hesitate for a second. Growing up in the mountains of Afghanistan, I was no stranger to harsh winter conditions. The show was set in Afghanistan, but I didn’t fully grasp what I was signing up for until we arrived in Angelfire, New Mexico. Shooting in the ski mountains, we were on standby for the fresh snow to arrive. At 7:00 AM, with our rooms not yet ready, we were told to start shooting because the snow was coming in fast. In just half an hour, we geared up and rushed to the mountain with our AK-47s. While some actors struggled with running in the snowy mountains, I was able to keep up with the main character, Luke Evans, who was fit from his own experience with snow in England. We spent more than three days shooting in those challenging conditions, and I’m so glad I never gave up. Unfortunately, Echo 3 didn’t make it to a second season, which was a big disappointment for me.

While shooting 12 Strong in New Mexico, there was a moment when Chris Hemsworth, Michael Peña, Geoff Stults, Austin Hébert, and I were waiting for the camera to get ready. Chris, being the great leader he is, called us all together for a quick selfie. He posted it on Instagram right away, capturing the camaraderie we had on set. Chris wasn't just a leader; he was kind and sweet to everyone, always bringing the cast closer. We spent six months filming and truly became a family. I’m incredibly grateful to have been part of 12 Strong and highly recommend watching it.

When Paramount picture contacted me to be part of the movie Charlie Wilson's War, I felt a rush of memories from the 1980s. At just 12 years old, I had already developed a strong anti-Communist stance, especially after witnessing the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. I had no idea who Charlie Wilson was, but I boarded a plane to Morocco for the shoot. Upon arrival, a tall man introduced himself as Charlie Wilson congressman. I asked him why the movie was named after him, and he explained how he and President Ronald Reagan had sent Stinger missiles to Afghanistan to help defeat the Soviet forces. Instantly, I warmed up to him, appreciating his role in the liberation of my birth country. Charlie Wilson was not only a charming man but also had a young, beautiful wife, and I was deeply impressed by his charisma. I thanked him from the bottom of my heart for his efforts to free Afghanistan, and I will forever be grateful to both Mr. Wilson and President Reagan for their pivotal roles in our fight for freedom.

Two decades ago, I used to watch Saturday Night Live and was always impressed by the show's humor, particularly Bill Hader's performances. I admired Hader's success on Saturday Night Live, never imagining I'd have the chance to work with him. However, I got very lucky when my agent called me to audition for the TV show Barry. To my amazement, Bill Hader saw my audition and immediately called me to start shooting the following week. Meeting Bill Hader was an incredible experience; he turned out to be one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I felt truly blessed to be a part of his show, as he is undoubtedly one of the kings of Hollywood comedy.

While shooting Rock the Kasbah in Morocco, we had a lot of downtime, and I often played golf with Taylor Kinney, Lady Gaga's former long-term fiancé. Having never played golf before, I found myself hitting the ball more like a baseball, much to the amusement of Taylor and Lady Gaga, who often accompanied us and laughed at my attempts. Despite my inexperience, we all had a great time on the course. Alongside us was Barry Levinson, one of the best directors ever, and we later celebrated our film's red carpet premiere with Lady Gaga and her former fiancé, cherishing the memorable moments we shared during the shoot.

Working on the groundbreaking Marvel Cinematic Universe film "Iron Man" was a thrilling and unforgettable experience. As Omar, a member of the Ten Rings, I had a pivotal role in the iconic scene where Tony Stark is kidnapped. It was an intense moment when I had to physically engage with Robert Downey Jr., and I remember him urging me to make it feel real—he said, "Don't be too kind; this is a movie, make it real." I delivered a hard push, which almost knocked him down, but it was all in the spirit of creating an authentic performance. Robert was incredibly gracious and professional, the sweetest man to work with, and I was deeply grateful to be part of such a landmark film. The experience not only highlighted the collaborative spirit of filmmaking but also the dedication to authenticity and storytelling that defines the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
