This week we mark 80 years since VE Day with tributes in honour of the Second World War Generation.
My post today is both a celebration of this anniversary and in honour of my Grampy, Raymond Caddick, who served as a Sapper during World War Two and within The Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers.
He did his training as a soldier in Newark towards the start of the war and as a combat engineer was involved with Bailey bridges which were instrumental in the Allied war effort, providing crucial crossing points for troops and equipment.
He was attatched to the 8th army and patrolled the pipelines in North Africa. He was serving here when news would have arrived that the war had ended.
He sadly missed the VE Day celebrations that happened in this country. Unfortunately work still had to be carried out in securing peace in other countries and it was at this time He was shipped to Italy to help with the peacekeeping campaign there.
When he eventually arrived home at the end of the war, he recalled a sense of loneliness. After spending so many years away and building trusted bonds with his comrades from the army, coming home must have seemed quite daunting. So much must have changed.
VE Day 80 is a time for celebration. Celebrating the end of a war that devastated so many and affected millions of people across the world. It’s a time of reflection. Remembering those who did so much for this country, no matter how small it seems, to secure peace for future generations. It’s also a symbol of hope. Hope and a reminder that in darker times, brighter days lie ahead.
A relaxing short video featuring some beautiful scenery at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum.
This no talking clip will hopefully provide you with a chance to unwind and relax during a long day. Hopefully adding a period of calm into what can be a busy time of the year for many.
Winter may soon be upon us but join me as we relish in the last weeks of Autumn and enjoy the spectacular displays that it continues to provide.
Join me this Thursday for a brand new video showcasing the beauty of the Cotswold village Castle Combe. Take a gentle walk with me through the main streets of the village. No talking, just walking. Key highlights of the village are pin pointed throughout our walk. Perfect for a relaxing evening to destress after a long day.
Join me this Thursday at 7.00pm for a brand new video exploring the beautiful Cotswold village of Castle Combe. Follow me as I take a look around the village and explore the history and picturesque scenery that make this one of England’s prettiest villages to visit.
