Hi my name is Richard Lake and apparently I am ultra cyclist. I spend most of social life riding bicycles, going wildcamping and enjoying as many type 2 bikepacking adventures as I can possibly fit in a calendar month!
Whether it's a road bike, gravel bike of mountain bike - as long as it's got two wheels - I am there!
My neck of the woods is Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and the Peak District, but thanks to #vanlife I'll often go further afield whether it's seeking out adventures in the North and South Downs, Wales, Northumberland or the Yorkshire Dales.
I also ride countless audax events throughout the year and have ridden many audaxes across the country.

Considering leaving the video camera at home this weekend for the GB Escapades and just taking a few snaps along the way. I record just about every adventure sometimes it would be nice to take a break!

Either come and join me and other bike packers and ride the route this July or ride it another time, you'll find all the info including the route* on the link below.
*Although the route is available now its subject to change ahead of the event, a fresh link will be supplier nearer the time with changes (if any) after I do a final recce this Spring.

Over the weekend I did the Meggie 200.
An audax ride starting from sunny Cleethorpes; by first audax ride of 2026.
Big shout to Dean for organising the event - it was a definite success. With perfect weather and a great opportunity to share the day with friends.
Audax UK is challenging all members to aim for 50 points this year as well as striving to get more women into Audax in 2026 as the Audax riding in the UK celebrates its 50th year.

It may only be the middle of March, but my 2026 Audax season is well underway having ridden 12 Audax DIYs since the 13th December.
Audax UK is celebrating 50 years in 2026 and is aiming to get more women into audax with a series 50:50@50 events throughout the year. The aim being to attract 50% of the 'field' to be female riders.
