Hello! It's been a while. I'll cut right to the chase. You may (or may not) have noticed that I changed this channel's name from "Alex Duquette" to "The Medley Man". So... why did I do this?
Although it seems like this name-change came out of nowhere, it's actually something I've been thinking about for a long time — And it wasn't a decision made lightly.
When I created this channel in 2012, my intention was to create music videos and cover songs. For the first handful years, that's exactly what I did! It was not only creatively fulfilling, but this window of time also functioned as a space for me to learn and grow as a musician, producer, and video editor. In hindsight, I can't overstate how rewarding this felt.
As time went on, I experimented with medleys on the channel, which quickly became my most popular content. As such, I began to cater my videos to my newly expanding audience — More medleys, less cover songs and music videos. Around 2018, I made the decision to exclusively make medleys on the channel. The numbers didn't (and don't) lie — My audience simply isn't interested in things outside of nostalgic medleys, for the most part.
Over the years, I've continued to develop, learn and grow through my medley-making. And more times than not, it's been enjoyable! The way I make medleys is like a musical puzzle — Attempting to piece together numerous songs with different keys, tempos and genres is a VERY challenging and rewarding experience! But I'd be lying to you if I said it never began to feel monotonous and tiring...Because it certainly has.
That brings us to 2025. My medley output has slowed down, and I've been putting a large portion of my creative energy into something that I'm personally much more passionate about — Video game music. So I created @vgmquest, a channel where I create in-depth retrospectives about video game soundtracks along with music analysis. It's been so much fun, and profoundly rewarding in ways I didn't expect.
I can speak for all creative people when I say that our interests and focuses work in a cyclical way. Aside from my VGM Quest venture, lately I've been finding myself wanting to just "make music" again — Without having to do it within the structural confines of how medleys are made. And out of nothing but respect for this channel, and out of respect for YOU, I do not plan on posting any kinds of those videos here. This really has become an exclusive medley channel, and I'm entirely happy with that.
Although nothing is currently in the works, I will eventually make other kinds of music videos and post cover songs as inspiration strikes over at a brand new channel, @apduquette1. This will also be where my officially published original music will make its new home. So, if you want to keep up with my other musical endeavors in the future, feel free to subscribe to that channel. I will be fully transparent with you — I have no current plans, but I can say with certainty that music/videos will come in the future. Thank you in advance if you decide to subscribe!
As for this channel, "The Medley Man", I also want to be clear that I'm not "quitting". But, similar to the aforementioned new "Alex Duquette" channel, I also have no set plans for new medleys. New medleys WILL come, but only when the time feels right... And if there's one thing I know, the time will feel right again one day soon.
In the meantime, all of these medleys are not going anywhere. This channel has sort of become a museum filled with hundreds upon hundreds of theme songs, available for you to go back and visit any time you'd like.
So, from here on out, I'm The Medley Man here. I'm by no means the only person who makes medleys on YouTube, but I can't help but think the name fits much better than my personal name now. I feel proud to have brought the channel to where it is today, and I'm DEEPLY thankful for your support and kind words over the years. After all, this channel wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for YOU.
