MADE IN PRESCOTIA

Explore the historic town of Prescot and its connections to Lancashire and the surrounding areas.
Discover the birthplace of renowned Shakespearean actor John Philip Kemble and visit the Shakespeare North Playhouse Theatre.
Once a global leader in watch and clock manufacturing, Prescot later became a hub for copper wire production. In the past, it was famous for Prescot Pottery—Red Ware—and in Tudor times, it hosted the first and only purpose-built Elizabethan theatre outside of London. It's claimed that William Shakespeare and his troupe performed here.

Did you know that in the 1800s, competitive walking was a massive spectator sport? It was called "Pedestrianism," and athletes could make the equivalent of millions of pounds just by walking in circles for days! 🚶‍♂️💰

In 1903, Prescot caught the "walking fever." The workers at the B.I. factory organised a gruelling 10-mile walking marathon around the Knowsley Estate, complete with roadside gambling and massive crowds.

I took a walk around town to trace the route and share some of the incredible local history — including a very rare photograph of the 1903 competitors on Aspinall Street.

Check out the full story here, and let me know in the comments: what is your favourite route to walk around Prescot? 👇

Can I save 100-year-old local news? 📰✨

This 1927 edition of the Prescot Reporter was tucked away in a drawer for nearly a century, becoming so fragile that touching it caused it to tear.

In my latest video, I walk through how to use archival restoration techniques (like bone folders and reversible Japanese document tape) to bring a brittle piece of Lancashire history back to a readable condition.

It paid off—I managed to uncover lost stories about the Prescot Picture Palace, Hemingways on Eccleston Street, and local sports teams from November 1927.

Imagine telling the people who live on Bridge Road today that their houses are sitting right in the middle of a "Cockshoot." 😂

My newest vlog is live! We're tracing the history of Prescot from a medieval hunting ground in the 1500s all the way to the arrival of the railway and the mighty BI factory. History definitely doesn't stand still around here.

We just experienced something truly special at the Shakespeare North Playhouse! 🎭
We caught The Festival Players’ production of The Comedy of Errors in the gardens, and it felt like stepping back 400 years in time. There is something about outdoor theatre—the natural sounds, the open air, and the sheer energy of the performers—that makes Shakespeare feel brand new again.

It got us thinking: Is this the most authentic way to experience theatre today?
We had a great chat about the performance, the history of touring companies, and some surprising connections between Prescot and theatre legends like Sarah Siddons.

You can watch our full review here: https://youtu.be/kX8lt6hgSi8

We want to hear from you: Have you ever watched a play in the open air? What’s your favourite Shakespeare play to see performed live? Let us know in the comments! 👇

New Upload - What's the Flippin' Point: THE UNTOLD STORY of a church that touched the heavens.

A rare example in Lancashire of the work of Nicholas Hawksmoor - an English architect. He was a leading figure of the English Baroque style of architecture in the late-seventeenth and early-eighteenth centuries.
