Did you know UT Medical Center's main campus spans an area of 2,037,943 square feet?! And our Maintenance team is responsible for managing the upkeep and service of every square inch!
Here’s some additional stats that underscore the Maintenance team’s impact to our facility. This incredible group of 43 team members manages and repairs:
• 1,080 patient beds and stretchers
• 12 emergency generators
• 1,502 electrical panels
• 23 heat exchangers
• 165 pumps
• 83 ice makers
• 413 doors controlled by badge access system
• 302 refrigerators and freezers monitored with temperature monitoring

UT Medical Center is thrilled to officially announce the significant expansion of our Emergency Department. This comprehensive expansion project will revolutionize our healthcare provision, and ensure patients receive the highest standard of care in a state-of-the-art facility for the next generation.
The newly expanded Emergency Department will be renamed The Haslam Family Center for Emergency & Trauma Services in recognition of the generous and critical support the Haslam family has provided to UT Medical Center for this project. The Haslam Family’s gift for this expansion is the single largest philanthropic gift that the medical center has received to date.
The expansion will add an additional 30,000 square feet to our Emergency Department, including:
- 30 additional patient treatment rooms and 8 new intake rooms
- An expanded 2-story lobby – providing patients with a modern, comfortable, safe waiting space
- Dedicated immunocompromised waiting space for added protection for vulnerable patients
- Modernized reception area that’s nearly double the size of the current space
- A nearly double ambulance bay – improving efficiencies with our area partners
- A new entrance with improved parking and patient access
