Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County, Florida — May 18–30, 2025
At a residence on Bedford Drive, authorities discovered the body of 6-year-old Ra’Myl Pierre following a welfare check prompted by concerns about the child’s prolonged absence from school.
Investigators allege that the boy’s mother, Rhonda Paulynice, 41, caused his death during what she described as a religious ritual intended to “cast out demons.” According to law enforcement, the child died from asphyxiation caused by covering his mouth and restricting his breathing.
Police said Ra’Myl had not attended school since May 14, leading to a welfare check on May 30, when deputies found his body wrapped in fabric on a bed inside the home. Authorities reported no signs of injury to the other three children in the household, ages 3 to 9, who were later placed with relatives.
Paulynice was arrested and charged in connection with her son’s death. Court records indicate she is serving a life sentence without parole at the Florida State Prison Lowell Annex.
The case was investigated by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.

Trumann, Poinsett County, Arkansas — July 2, 2025 (midday)
Officers with the Trumann Police Department responded to an anonymous welfare check after a 4-year-old autistic girl was reported wandering alone along a roadway in a residential area.
The child was found unsupervised, wearing a soiled diaper and walking near traffic. Deputies traced her back to a nearby residence belonging to Jacqueline (mother) and Christian (stepfather or boyfriend).
Inside the home, investigators reported conditions they described as unsafe, including accessible medications, exposed sharp objects, and a lack of safety measures appropriate for a young child with special needs. The residence was also noted to be in poor sanitary condition.
A 14-year-old sibling reportedly told officers that the 4-year-old had been left alone before, suggesting a pattern of neglect. Authorities said the mother was asleep when they arrived and initially did not respond to repeated knocking. The stepfather was not present at the time.
The child was placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and later released to a grandmother.
Both Jacqueline and Christian were charged with child neglect without great bodily harm. The case remains under investigation by the Trumann Police Department, with coordination from the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office and DCF.

Detroit, Michigan — June 24, 2022 (around 12:45 a.m.)
Officers with the Detroit Police Department conducted a welfare check at a residence after concerns were raised about the condition of a 3-year-old boy, Chase Allen, who was blind and had significant medical needs.
Inside the home, investigators discovered the child’s body in a basement freezer. Authorities said the remains showed advanced decomposition at the time they were found.
The child’s mother, Azerati France, 31, was charged with felony murder, first-degree child abuse, torture, and concealing the death of an individual. According to investigators, France initially told police the child had died of natural causes related to illness. However, an autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, along with signs of malnutrition and abuse.
Authorities stated the child’s body had been placed in the freezer approximately three months earlier, around March 2022. France denied intentionally harming the child.
Court records indicate that Child Protective Services (CPS) had previously investigated the household multiple times prior to the incident. Following the discovery, CPS removed the couple’s five other children from the home.
The case remains part of ongoing legal proceedings in Wayne County.

Oregon, Ogle County, Illinois — December 13, 2024
Deputies responded to a residence in Oregon, Illinois, after reports of a domestic dispute involving a child.
Martha R. Dunham, 36, of Roscoe, was accused of pulling a 6-year-old girl by the hair and striking her head with her own during an argument inside the home. According to investigators, the confrontation began during a dispute between Dunham and an adult male over childcare responsibilities.
Authorities said the man confronted Dunham after alleging she had previously harmed the child. In response, Dunham reportedly took the child into a bathroom and pulled her hair before making contact with her head. Dunham later described the act as a “demonstration” and not intended to cause harm. The child cried and later reported the incident.
Police interviewed the children inside the home, who provided consistent accounts. The adult male also reported being involved in a separate altercation with Dunham during the confrontation.
Dunham was arrested and charged with endangering the health or safety of a child. Court records show she had a prior domestic battery conviction in 2006, for which she received a conditional discharge.
The case was investigated by the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, with court proceedings overseen by local judges in Ogle County.
