Ultimate sacrifices made by our tennis heroes in extremely dangerous heat conditions for players and fans. Did you know that players are not allowed to take a full medical timeout for cramps? Cramp treatment must occur during a changeover or set break and is limited to two per match.

At the Australian Grand Slam earlier this year, at a Heat Index high of 111°F (44°C). Jannik Sinner, in the third set leading 3-2, takes a 10 min medical time out loses control of muscles and his right hand shakes violently.

Later, at the Miami Masters 2025 (Heat Index high of 100°F (38°C). Grigor Dimtrov, in the semi-final match, collapses from heat exhaustion after winning match and is physically assisted by tournament doctor and physio to the dressing room.

There are many misconceptions about overheating, heat illness and heat stroke. Taking the appropriate steps can protect us from serious harm. We fail to take precautions, and heat gradually builds up, turning a hot, sunny moment into a critical life situation.

There's nothing quite like being outside on a bright, sunny day. It's therapeutic, warms us up, keeps us healthy, and makes us feel happy and alive. However, the progression from enjoyment to danger is caused by the failure to take appropriate steps to prevent the buildup of heat in the body’s internal core rising above 100°F. The body’s cooling system regulates heat that accumulates in our internal organs, muscles and nerves by moving that heat to the skin through fluids or sweat. In extreme heat, heat builds up at a rate faster than the body's ability to cool itself.

Factors that contribute to heat stress and heat stroke include: personal heat tolerance and sensitivity levels; high air temperatures; high humidity levels; which hinders sweat evaporation; surrounding objects that absorb and radiate heat; tissue-damaging direct sun high UV rays; physical exertion; equipment; clothing; and lack of hydration. It's essential to be vigilant and manage heat buildup by cooling the body’s internal core to its optimal functional range to prevent heat illness.

Do you ever feel like your skin is burning and wonder if you need to reapply your sunscreen? Sunscreen blocks harmful penetrating ultraviolet radiation that damages skin tissue, BUT it's not designed to block the sun's infrared rays (IR) or visible light (VIS), the main sources of heat you feel on your skin. Sunscreen will not protect you against ambient core temperatures, humidity, and radiant heat from the sun, surfaces and surroundings, or internal heat build-up from physical exertion. Hot air on the skin and the external heat from warmer air are physically transferred to the cooler body tissue, causing a rise in overall body temperature. Sunscreen can block perspiration and create a thermal barrier, causing heat to build up in the body.

At extreme temperatures, the only way to cool the body is to lower body temperature. Air conditioning cools the body by cooling the skin. However, the transfer of cooling from skin to tissue to vitals takes time. Find out how Krazy Kool Tech externally normalizes blood and internal body temperatures fast so you can stay active and be resilient in extreme heat. How? Find out at krazykooltech.com/.

Transitioning from FCS to FBS, Conference USA, SH Bearkats' third season (0-3) is looking to reset to its 2024 performance, 10 wins and New Orleans Bowl victory. With a game before SEC, Longhorns fans are impatient with the first-round pick and sophomore Arch Manning’s development as a starter QB and Heisman trophy candidate.

What fans may have overlooked is how scheduling may affect performance. For the 2024 season, the Longhorns moved from the Big 12 to the SEC, moving kickoff times for 4 games in the hottest months before 6pm. During the summer, Longhorns strength and conditioning coach Becton put players through Austin, TX, 100°F heat training to build mental and physical toughness.

Saturday’s 89°F at kickoff, DKR’s 100,000 fans (100 watts/spectator), low airflow between rows, radiant heat from bright lights and plastic seats add 5°F, with 65% RH, or 105°F heat index. Field turf can be 40°F degrees hotter than grass, and in all-day direct sunlight, temperatures could reach 140°F. Want to avoid long lineups, stay cool, and not miss the game? Six games remaining, Orlando Pride is pushing for a consecutive playoff. Of the last 26 matches against Courage, Orlando has only won 6, but they’re more consistent this year, especially at home. Courage fired their head coach after a shaky year. With star attacker Banda out for the season, Pride’s offense is limited but still favored. NWSL rules state WGBT must not exceed 92.3°F (33.5°C). This Friday at Inter&Co Stadium, attendance will exceed 19,237.

Forecasted daytime highs for Orlando, FL are 87°F with humidity of 74%, making it feel like 94°F and 84°F at 8pm kickoff, hopefully not another torturous 3.5hr extreme heat delay. Temperatures will have 19,000 fans at the water and cooling stations. Drinking alcohol increases the risks of dehydration and heat illness, so instead of free Heineken, spiked, caffeinated, or sodapop, go for alcohol-free drinks, water, or electrolytes. Avoid heavy meals. Want to avoid water lineups, stay safe, and not miss the game? Stay Orlando strong with www.KrazyKoolTech.com

From the previous 33 meetings, the Houston Dash has only won 9x. With 6 games left in the regular season and just 3 points to clinch, the battle is on for that final playoff spot. Losing to the Utah Royals FC just made the challenge a bit more real. High UV rays can increase internal core temperatures by 15°F, and slight increases in internal core body temperatures can affect mental and physical performance. Are hot temperatures in the stadium and health threats to the players and fans legitimate?

The grass field at Shell Energy Stadium is a relief, as synthetic turf can raise stadium temperatures 40-70°F, and mesh seats are 30°F cooler than plastic. But with daytime highs of 94°F, high direct UV rays (8.0) and humidity at 50% the stadium’s latent heat could radiate triple digits onto 22K Dash and Stars fans at Noche Latina, kickoff, and during the game. As the sun sets, the heat could linger into the night. Want to avoid long water lineups, stay safe, and not miss the game? Can the body perform in extreme heat? Yes, check out www.KrazyKoolTech.com to Go Beyond. ⚽️⚽️⚽️
