Member of Parliament John Brittas, leader of the CPI(M) in the Rajya Sabha, has written to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Rajnikant Patel, expressing grave concern over reports of a Gujarat Police Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on anti-radicalisation that allegedly contains draconian provisions permiting profiling and surveillance on the basis of religion and constitutionally protected conduct.

In his letter, Comrade John Brittas pointed out that if the reported SOP is authentic, provisions such as treating religious attire, growing a beard, using Arabic expressions, visiting mosques or madrasas, or expressing concern over issues affecting Muslims as indicators of "radicalisation" would violate the constitutional guarantees of equality, freedom of religion, free speech, dignity and privacy. He asserted that counter-terrorism measures must be firmly rooted in evidence of unlawful conduct, not stereotypes or collective suspicion.

Comrade Brittas urged the Gujarat Chief Minister to keep the implementation of the SOP in abeyance, pending a comprehensive review. He also called for the SOP to be examined by an independent body of constitutional experts, jurists and policing professionals to ensure that all anti-radicalisation measures remain evidence-based, non-discriminatory and fully consistent with the Constitution of India.

SFI Central Executive Committee meeting will start today in Visakhapatnam.
It will continue till 15th July.
A public rally with nearly five thousand students was organised in Visakhapatnam.
The rally demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the scrapping of NTA, and also raised the issue of school closures.

The TDP-NDA government of Andhra Pradesh is also pursuing anti-student policies.
Scholarships have not been given. They are trying to shut down public schools. Irregularities in the distribution of school uniforms, the pathetic situation of hostels, and other issues were also raised in the rally.

Protest Rally was organized in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh.
The rally, attended by around 4,000 school students, reflected the anger of students against the Narendra Modi-led Central Government and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government in Andhra Pradesh, which has pushed people into hardship.
Following the NEET examination paper leak, the future of nearly 2.5 million students across the country has been thrown into uncertainty. Raising the slogans "Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan must resign" and "Disband the NTA," the streets of Vizianagaram were taken over by SFI.
