OBSESSION is not the masterpiece I’ve heard some people call it… but it is absolutely a great horror experience, I can’t deny that because I enjoyed it.

Curry Barker’s breakout horror film shocked me because the hype actually makes sense. It’s entertaining, disturbing, stylish, and at times genuinely shocking — not because of the violence, but because of the nightmare hiding underneath the One Wish Willow.

The most horrific part of this movie isn’t blood or gore. It’s the idea that Nikki isn’t just obsessed… she’s trapped. Something is behind that wish. Something answered. And once you realize that, the movie gets a lot darker.

Michael Johnston is a bit uneven but solid, Inde Navarrette is the standout. Her performance is fantastic — even if a few moments feel a little over-the-top or unnatural, she brings the exact kind of intensity this story needs.

The cinematography is excellent, the score is excellent, and Barker clearly has a style. There is a small hint of pretentiousness here and there, but never enough to ruin the experience. My biggest issue is that the movie could have gone deeper. There are themes about obsession, control, love, consent, and supernatural manipulation that feel like they’re only partially explored.

Still, for a horror movie from a breakout filmmaker? This is impressive. Not perfect. Not the best horror movie I’ve ever seen. But really, really good. I hope we get more not just from him but other emerging filmmakers.

Although I Prefer more old school horror, OBSESSION proves fresh horror is still alive.

Project Hail Mary completely wrecked me emotionally… in the best way possible.

I left the theater crying happy tears, full of wonder, and honestly just grateful movies like this can still exist.

This is the kind of sci-fi movie that makes you believe in humanity again.
