Photographer's Freedom

Hi, I’m Barry, a nature photographer from New South Wales, Australia. On Photographer’s Freedom I simplify DSLR and mirrorless photography so you can capture better photos of birds, wildlife, and nature.

This channel is for beginner photographers who want clear, practical help with camera settings and techniques without the confusion. I share simple tutorials on autofocus, shutter speed, lenses, and field techniques so you can photograph birds and wildlife with confidence.

If you’ve struggled with blurry photos, missed the perfect bird shot, or felt overwhelmed by camera settings, this channel will help you get the results you want.

Simplifying photography so you gain the freedom to capture nature with ease on YouTube.

Photographer's Freedom

The number one reason beginners miss bird shots isn't reaction time; it's that they're still adjusting settings when the bird shows up.

The fix? Have your camera set up before you arrive at your spot.

Here are the starting points I use for most bird photography situations:

📷 Shutter speed: 1/1500s (minimum)
📷 Aperture: f/5.6 - f/8
📷 ISO: Auto

But here's the thing: one setup doesn't cover everything. Birds in flight, backlit subjects, sunny landscapes, they each need something different.

That's why I put together my Nature Photography Cheat Cards. 7 field-tested setups, printable, small enough to tuck in your camera bag.

I'm hard at work on some new content. Excuse the mess on my desk! (Yes, it's difficult to work with my desk in this state. It's on my list of to-dos for this weekend.) 🙂

How many shots have you missed because you were stuck fiddling with your settings? We've all been there. But what if you had a reliable 'starting point' for every situation?

Before the end of the month, I'm sharing the exact camera settings I use for everything from sunny landscapes to low- light/dusk. I've also put together some printable cheat cards to go with it.

Get ready to stop thinking about numbers and start enjoying the view. The view of all the great photos you'll be taking, that is!! 😃

It has been a while since I released a video on the channel. I had been focusing my efforts on my other channel ‪@birdwatchworld‬

I am BACK and working hard to create heaps of content for you here on this channel. I have a new YouTube studio where I can pretty much just walk in and press record. It's an amazing place to work and has me fired up to film videos.

My first video in over two months will be released this Sunday, Nov 24th at 12 AM AEDST. I'm showing you 9 different ways to hold your camera for some unique perspectives in your photographs. Check it out this Sunday on the Photographer's Freedom YT channel.
