I feel like I might do my morning pages to you this morning, though it might get painfully long. But I definitely need to work on my relationship to releasing music. The writing part I love, the recording is so much fun, and I often enjoy pulling all the videos and pictures together for it too. But the day it comes out and the week following, a very strange time. Hard to know what is so un-nerving about it, but I think it’s the time I feel most vulnerable. I’m not asking anything of anyone the rest of the time, but suddenly when the music is being released, I feel like I’m asking a lot of you all. ‘Please pre-order the vinyl…. you can stream it here…. Here’s some promo videos to try and persuade you to do those two things….’

It is…. uncomfortable. And then I have numbers to look at in terms of whether I’m putting myself out there into a vacuum, is anyone out there wanting this?! Sometimes I really don’t know. But I do believe in the music, and I’m pleased for myself that I have been able to capture the London show, at the very least, it’s a time capsule for me, which shows what I did once upon a time, when I’m looking back. Not the studio albums, but this completely live, raw experience, with people cheering at the end of the songs, makes me remember it is real, this really did happen. So yes, here I am posting a picture of me doing my morning walk, trying to unravel my feelings of uncertainty, and make sense of the familiar but unfamiliar knot in my stomach. And also, here are the piano chords for Shiver, just in case one of you out there would like them.

One of the things I love most about playing live is allowing songs to flow into each other, it enables me to lose myself for longer periods of time, and hopefully takes the listener on a bit of a journey. Today I’m releasing, Shiver, Interlude I and Whatever You Want, as a small snippet of the live show at Union Chapel. I’ve been playing Shiver now for around 15 years, and the song still means so much to me, but I wanted to bring it into the world of music I felt the rest of the show was in, so reimagined it on the piano.

The full album will be out on all streaming platforms on 14th August, with the vinyl (now available for preorder) coming out on 21st August. Really hope some of you enjoy hearing these live versions, they are real and raw. Huge thanks to all the musicians who joined me on the night, they made it so special for me.

I recently did a small UK tour, my first in many years and… I really enjoyed it. A combination of an incredible group of musicians and friends, a fantastic support act, and feeling enormously grateful to everyone who came and listened. It’ll never stop feeling surreal that these songs have connected with anyone at all, so getting to play them again in those beautiful venues felt like such a gift. I surprised myself that I could still do it, remember how to play, lose myself in it, and reconnect with a part of my brain that’s been put to one side for the last couple of years.

I came home feeling euphoric, restored, and wondering whether maybe I’d do it again one day. To my surprise, my live sound engineer had recorded the London show and sent it across to me. Surprisingly I really, really liked it. I’ve always found it hard to listen to my own music, especially live recordings with all their imperfections, but there was something about this one that just felt honest and real. After meeting so many people at the merch stand who’d travelled from Japan, the USA, Poland, Italy, Germany and beyond, I felt incredibly honoured, and started thinking about everyone who couldn’t be there too.

So I have decided to release it, a live album, ’The Complete Concert at Union Chapel'.

This will be my first release as a completely independent artist, which means I’m funding and making a very limited run of hand-numbered and signed double gatefold vinyl myself (very fancy). I had the most amazing musicians on stage with me and so much of why I want to share this is because of what they brought to these songs every night. And because I’m independent now, I can do slightly mad things like include unreleased songs on a live album. I first played Union Chapel in 2008 when I was 18, and eighteen years later it felt just as special to stand there again. Thank you for being here, for listening, and for continuing to make this music mean something beyond me.

You can preorder now and the first single will be available digitally on Wednesday.

Moments from London, Birmingham and Bristol.

I’ll have more to say, but for now just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came, to my incredible band, to Margaret Glaspy for her support.

It’s been a blur of joy and chaos and an overriding feeling of happiness to be back playing these shows.

Yesterday was such a whirlwind. After not being on the road for so many years, it felt very surreal in so many ways. Think I had a bit of PTSD doing my vocal warmups, but being back playing music and seeing all your friendly faces was such a treat. Big love to you all in Leeds, was such a beautiful, welcoming experience for me. And of course, my band and crew, thanks for being here with me again.

Right let’s do it all over again in Edinburgh tonight.

Going through some of the archives of when I went to South America. Promoters wouldn’t take the risk so I saved my money and stay with friends and supporters all over the continent. Some things have changed since then but one thing that rings true is how much I always just wanted to play my music for you. That has always been my joy and my priority. I’m so grateful to be starting tour today, for the first time in a while. Leeds sold out tonight!

Set times

7.45pm - Margaret Glaspy
8.45pm - me
