Portnoy Media Lab | Dan Portnoy | Nonprofit Tips

Nonprofits don’t have a fundraising problem. They have a communication problem.

I’m Dan Portnoy, author of The Nonprofit Narrative, helping nonprofit leaders raise more money by telling better stories.

On this channel you’ll find nonprofit fundraising strategy, donor storytelling, nonprofit marketing, communications, messaging, branding, campaign planning, leadership, and practical systems that help organizations connect with donors and grow sustainable giving. I share lessons from more than 20 years creating campaigns for organizations including Union Rescue Mission and United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

Whether you’re an executive director, development officer, fundraiser, marketer, or communications leader, you’ll learn how to clarify your message, build trust with donors, create fundraising campaigns that convert, and spend less time wondering what to post next.

Fun Update!

Alabaster International now supports 4 schools in Leer County — including Thor Primary School, our newest.

The Groundbreakers campaign made that possible.

Three weeks ago it was 3 schools, the needle is moving.

The Mane – New Episode

This week’s episode marks a big moment. These students started last October with zero production experience—most had never even opened editing software. Now? They’re running segments, editing dialogue, designing graphics, and owning the process.

We’ve got a countdown to summer, a look at the most expensive LEGO set ever made, poster design shoutouts from 6th–8th grade, and a great round of “What’s your favorite color (and why)?”

Getting to work alongside them and watch their confidence grow has been one of the best parts of my year. Proud doesn’t begin to cover it.
