S.G. Goodman’s new studio album, ‘Planting by the Signs’, is out everywhere on 6/20/25 via Slough Water Records / Thirty Tigers. Her first album in three years, it is a reminder of the Kentucky born and raised singer-songwriter’s razor-sharp lyricism, singular voice and seamless blend of indie rock and subtle rural influences.

S.G. Goodman catapulted onto the scene in 2020 with her debut album ‘Old Time Feeling’ – possibly the worst time to emerge, and yet, her talent was undeniable. She immediately garnered attention from NPR, Rolling Stone, and more, and took her show on the road across the world, gaining fans and followers, even landing a fan in Tyler Childers, who covered her song “Space And Time” from her debut. In 2022, she released ‘Teeth Marks’, a critical darling that leveled her up, gaining praise from the New York Times, landing her an NPR Tiny Desk, landing on Pitchfork and NPR’s Best Of lists, and earning her the Best Emerging Artist Award at the 2023 Americana Awards.

Being that I was a young child when I first heard "Pepper," I am certain that I loved the excuse to request a band where I could say "Butthole" without consequence. To be honest, it still brings me joy.

The adult me understands that the lasting appeal of the @BHSurfers would melt into my own work, simply because of their distinctive approach to making music that felt right to them. The only covers that excite me are ones where the outcome shows the original's influence on the artist as a whole.
My cover of "Pepper" feels like me and it feels like the same intrigue I experienced when hearing the original: to be left wondering what is actually going on here?

Listen to "Pepper" everywhere now.

It was already an honor to get to open for ‪@tylerchilders‬ at ‪@RedRocksCO‬, but to get to play some songs with this band took the cake.

Enjoy “Waymore’s Blues” by Waylon Jennings.

The keeper of the time is our body. This song is really important to me. It’s about how storing trauma in your body is going to be impactful on all of your relationships. I close the album with that because it's maybe the root of it all. Maybe the root of all the bad and all the good is really what we have left unprocessed or the work we haven't done within ourselves. This song for me is all about the aftermath of trauma, and I think of it as a response to “Space and Time.”

Ok ok. So Tyler Childers covering ‘Space and Time’ to benefit Kentuckians may be the best way to wake up on tour. Kentucky forever!
