The towering monument of Peter the Great in Moscow is one of the city’s most recognizable modern landmarks. Built on an artificial island along the Moskva River, the statue stands about 98 meters tall and represents Peter the Great standing proudly on a ship. Designed by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, it symbolizes Russia’s naval strength and maritime history. Peter the Great was the Russian tsar who transformed Russia into a major European power during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He modernized the army, created the Russian navy, introduced reforms, and founded Saint Petersburg, which later became Russia’s imperial capital.
