I say it with kindness and sympathy.
God’s ways are not our ways, and for that we should all give thanks. His ways are always wise, and they are always better.
That we often don’t see it in the moment is no contradiction of that most foundational truth.
As redeemed believers in Christ with a reserved home in heaven, He abides with us always. That is enough.
“I fear no evil, for You are with me.”
(Psalm 23:4)

The love of God and
the power of God and
the wisdom of God
mean that
the providence of God
is perfectly suited for
the ultimate blessing of God
on your life, my Christian friend.
That is guaranteed by
the infallible Word of God.
Just trust him. He works all things for good and after the counsel of His own will.
It is really not so complicated, even though we all know that life on this passing earth can be awfully hard.

It’s a radical concept in these impatient, self-promoting days, which value reputation over substance.
But please: Don’t tell us how faithful you are.
Just be faithful.
Your life, not your lips, tells the true story.
“Many a man proclaims his own loyalty, but who can find a trustworthy man?”
(Proverbs 20:6)
"He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.”
(Luke 16:10)

My dear friends, take care over what you choose to hear and from whom you choose to hear it.
There is no shortage of men (and women, for that matter) who will tell you what you want to hear.
You’ll find them in the pulpit and in the pew.
And the vanity of your own heart, unchecked, will incline you in that direction and away from hearing and being accountable to the truth.
You are vulnerable to flattery and deception from others and especially your own pride.
And unless you heed the many biblical warnings against false teachers and the pride of your own heart, much ruin can be done to you—and mark this especially closely—*through* you.
That’s right. Your own carelessness, conceit, and cockiness can become a vehicle through which you harm others.
I know that may not be your intention. But that doesn’t diminish the damaging effect a vain heart can cause to others.
So step back and examine not only whom you follow, but also whom you resist and reject.
Evaluate both what you imbibe and what you impart.
That kind of reflection would teach you much about the long-term trajectory of your life, if only you would do it humbly in the presence of God with an open Bible before your reading eyes.
You are not the end and measure of your own search for wisdom.
It’s not like Scripture doesn’t address us from our youth:
“He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing.”
(Proverbs 29:1)
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
(Matthew 7:15)
“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”
(2 Timothy 4:3-4)
“They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them.”
(1 John 4:5)
“Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”
(1 Peter 5:5)
I say these things to the glory of God, for your own welfare and protection, and the good of others.
Deep down, I think you know that.

Not with severity, but with the meekness of Christ do we attack the citadels of Satan with the gospel weapons of our warfare.
24 The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged,
25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,
26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. ~ 2 Timothy 2:24-26

There is a particular exacerbation of the most unthinkable sort to the sin of sexual immorality.
(I speak in the second person simply for the sake of clarity and application.)
It’s not enough for you to sink your own body and soul into corruption and condemnation. That would be bad enough.
The aggravation of your crime is that you inflict that same corruption and condemnation on your partner(s). You use their body to gratify your lust, and thereby pull them into the same judgment that you yourself are storing up for the final day.
You call that “love”? What kind of love brings about the demise of the other? No, my friend. That is murder of the most heinous sort.
For the sake of a few moments of sensual intoxication, you participate in the searing of their conscience, the blinding of their soul, and their spiritual enslavement to the enemy.
Seek the ruin of your own soul if you must. Run to your own destruction.
But why must you drag others into it? Why must you corrupt them also and enhance their condemnation before God? What kind of selfish beast does such harm to another? Have you no regard for their well-being?
Well did Christ speak of such as you:
"Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!” (Matthew 18:7)
If perhaps these words reach a repentant believer, who looks back with shame on his sinful past with no opportunity to undo the harm you have done, take comfort in the blood of Christ which cleanses you from all your sin.
But let your soul also be humbled that grace was given to you despite your crimes against God and man.
I speak words of sober truth.
Only a fool would wave it away.

As a servant of Christ, I am authorized to promise you eternal life, including the free and immediate forgiveness of all your sins, through believing in His name.
God will welcome you in His gracious love.
So, as the apostle Paul put it, I beg you on behalf of Christ to be reconciled to God.
But there is another side to it, my friend.
I am not authorized to indulge your unbelief, accommodate your false religion, excuse your unrepentant sin, or soften the warnings of eternal conscious punishment if you reject my Master’s invitation to you.
God will judge you in His righteous wrath.
So I repeat myself: I beg you, on behalf of Christ, to be reconciled to God.
I desire your good. Your issue, if you have one, is with the One who sent me. I’m just the messenger.
But He makes you a good faith offer in His gospel. He Himself desires your good. He will receive you if you come to Him.
If you turn away, you alone are responsible for the consequences. Why would you do that?
He is calling you, even if you have rejected Him before. Come to Christ. Come now.
God help you.
Amen.
“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

Well, this post will probably cost me some invitations to parties. 🙂
There comes a time when you realize life is serious, and frivolous humor isn’t as appealing as you once thought it was.
2 It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, because that is the end of every man, and the living takes it to heart.
3 Sorrow is better than laughter, for when a face is sad a heart may be happy.
4 The mind of the wise is in the house of mourning, while the mind of fools is in the house of pleasure. (Ecclesiastes 7:2-4)
