Hey Everyone!

As some of you know, I come from a PC hardware overclocking and review background. For the most part, when reviewing PC hardware, there are established standards that a lot of reviewers tend to follow. There are benchmarks that quantify speed, stability, application usage and more.

I noticed in 3D printer reviews, outside of a few Benchy's and test prints, there is not much to quantify one printer from another, outside of using manufacturer provided specs. I want to help change that.

For my 3D Printer reviews, I want to establish testing that delivers repeatable, measurable, results that novices and veteran users alike can use in their search for their first or next 3D printer.

Total Print time is a starting point that some reviewers get into, while others focus on purge waste and/or filament swapping speeds.

As I do more research into developing "standards", here are my questions for you all.

What are the three most important aspects of a 3D printer you look for?

What are the three aspects of a 3D printer you mostly ignore?

Viewers should expect more from us. We have to stop being simple marketing for these companies and push them to do better.

Based off my time and experience, Anycubic 3D printers can be hit or miss. I have detailed my experience with the Anycubic S1, Kobra 3v2 and Kobra 3 Max. I purchased all three of those products with my own funds. While I did like the S1 and Kobra 3v2 print quality, they had color bleeding issues due to Anycubic's weird fixed flush logic (which has been remedied in new firmware).

With all that said, I decided to buy the S1 Max to give Anycubic another shot. After I ordered that printer, Anycubic approached me to test out their Kobra X. There are no strings attached. I can and will be completely blunt in my evaluation of the printer. If the Kobra X is good, I will give you reasons why. If the Kobra X is bad or mediocre, I am definitely going to let you all know.

I am going to give you some comparison prints between the Bambu Lab A1, Kobra 3v2 and Kobra X. Again, they didn't ask me to compare it to any other printers, but I will. If you have anything you would like for me to test, let me know.

Regardless, I am going to give you the good and bad about all products. There are no perfect products.

I am an introvert, but I love talking to people about technology. Everyone that personally knows me, understands how enigmatic I can be. Through this channel, it is my hope to connect with creative people and break out of my shell [somewhat].

Today, I had a good conversation with a creative person named Mikey. As some of you know, I am still interested in buying a H2S, especially to compare to the Max4 and eventually the Kobra S1 Max. I saw a H2S Laser edition on FBM with a decent price. While I don't have all of the funds to pay for it (yet), I decided to message the seller.

Throughout our conversation, I learned Mikey has a 3D printing business and knows CAD (something I need to continue to get better at). Basically, in certain ways, he is at a business and creative stage that I strive for. That is the kind of community I am trying to build and foster with Slice of my Mind.

Mikey is seriously a cool dude. He even offered to loan me some stuff that I can review for all of you! So I want to give a shout out to his business on my small platform - M&M Creative Designs www.mmdesignlabusa.com/

And no, he didn't ask or pay me to do any of this. This post does, however, give you a hint of some of my plans for this channel. While I (and others) will provide you reviews on 3D printing and other tech, I want to showcase individuals and businesses that use these technologies in various ways - including podcast and interviews.

However, I create content for you all and I am willing to buy a Centauri Carbon 2 if my community wants me to compare it to the original Centauri Carbon and other printers in my print farm like the Snapmaker U1. In one of early posts, I shared a draft of the Sliceofmymind Review Guidelines (SRG) that all companies must agree to if they wish to collab or have their products reviewed on my channel. Version 1 of the SRG is live on my website - sliceofmymind.com

The SRG has grown considerably and touches on a lot of things like review integrity, and my commitment to my community. It echoes that I will not accept sponsorships and I am not currently accepting affiliate links.

Sticking to my core values as an independent reviewer/commentator and building trust with my community is all that really matters to me. I didn't get into this to make money. However, I also didn't get into this to lose a lot of money - if I can break even, that will make me happy.

Believe it or not, even as a small creator, I have already received collab or product review offers. All of which, I have declined thus far.

To be fully transparent, I have reached out to a few companies about testing certain products like hotends, build plates and filament. If they agree, the content I create will be governed by the SRG.

Slice Of My Mind (Frankie)

As the New Year arrives, I want to thank all of you for subscribing, viewing and commenting. To some people, my subscriber count means little, but not me. I truly appreciate all of you!

As an introvert, I do struggle with sharing my opinions online. However, I do welcome and enjoy reading your comments and opinions, even the ones I disagree with. I want to build a community that encourages the free flow of various opinions.

I do want to reiterate that Sliceofmymind is a channel about taking various technologies/tools and using them to create while voicing my opinions on those technologies and tools. The second mission is to bring awareness to the ever expanding enshittification that some companies are using to take away our consumer rights.

I know I feature a lot of 3D printing on this channel, but I do want to expand to talking about other tech like PC hardware and even certain gaming products. There is a good chance I may create a separate channel that focuses more on PC hardware and gaming, while keeping the focus of this channel on creating.

Let me know your thoughts/opinions on that.

If/when we do an unpaid review of a product/service - I want to ensure full transparency between our community, Sliceofmymind and the company whom product/service we review. I am currently writing the Sliceofmymind Review Guidelines that will be posted on our website that all companies must agree to. Here's an early draft. Let me know what you all think.

To ensure we can give, the consumer, the best possible information on a product/service, thus helping the consumer make an informed buying decision, this is the official Sliceofmymind Review Guidelines (SRG).

The SRG governs our product/service test processes (methodology), communication with our viewership and companies whom products we review. We are very selective on the products/services we choose to review and we will not review products/services that are not reflective of our community standards.

We do not accept any form of sponsorship and/or monetary/reward incentives for reviews. This means we will not accept any form of payment, Quid Pro Quo, gifts or any other means in exchange for a review (positive or negative).

We will not allow the company (or its affiliates) of a product/service that we review to preview or require drafts of our reviews. If the company requires this, we will not review the product/service.

We will not review products from companies that are known to have DRM that prevent consumers from repairing the product.

We are not unpaid alpha/beta testers. If a company sends us an alpha/beta product (aka early unit, pre-production), we may require payment to test and offer our insights into a product/service (the pre-production product/service does not serve as payment). We will not perform a review on that alpha/beta product/service. We only create reviews on actual retail/full production products/services that retail customers will receive if they buy the product/service.

We reserve the right to keep, liquidate or gift (example, a giveaway promotion) a product after the review has been completed. However, most (if not all) products will be preserved for future content. If we agree to review a product that must be returned to the company, the company is required to pay all shipping costs. We will not return a product, if a company disagrees with our review, if a product return agreement was not in place before we agreed to the review.

So I thinking about adding a new large format 3D printer to my print farm. The choices are the QIDI Max4, Prusa Core One L, AnyCubic Kobra S1 Max and Bambu Labs H2S.

What I need is a large volume, enclosed heated chamber and great print quality for ASA and other technical filaments. While I thought my Sovol SV08 Max would suffice, Sovol has been quiet about their chamber heater.

Each printer is 300mm plus - with the QIDI Max4 offering the largest volume. I am leaning more towards the Max4, but I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Which printer should I get?

I am working on some quick reviews for upgrades I purchased for my Bambu Lab P1S and Sovol SV08 printers - namely, the Microswiss Flowtech hotends. While they are a bit pricey, they have impressed me thus far.

I purchased the hotends myself. The reviews will have no input from the company nor will they see them before they go live. Lastly, there will be no affiliate links.
