Kedarnath Landslide: Why Kedarnath Route Keeps Witnessing Deadly Landslides
A deadly landslide on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route near Sonprayag in Uttarakhand has once again raised concerns over the fragile Himalayan terrain. One person died and another was critically injured after a portion of the hillside collapsed onto the Sonprayag–Gaurikund road during the Char Dham Yatra season.
Just days earlier, another landslide had stranded over 10,000 Kedarnath pilgrims before rescue teams managed to clear the route. Why does the Kedarnath route witness repeated landslides every year? This video explains the geology of the Himalayas, extreme weather risks, heavy rainfall, earthquake-prone terrain, and the growing ecological pressure in Uttarakhand’s pilgrimage corridors.
The Kedarnath route remains one of India’s most disaster-prone mountain regions, especially during monsoon and peak yatra season.

Kerala Becomes First State With AI Ministry, Tamil Nadu Follows
Kerala has become the first Indian state to create a dedicated Artificial Intelligence Ministry, while Tamil Nadu has also launched a separate AI-focused department. The move signals how seriously governments are beginning to treat AI — not just as a tech trend, but as a major governance, economic and policy issue.
From hospitals and schools to traffic systems and public services, AI is rapidly becoming part of everyday governance. Countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Singapore are already investing heavily in AI infrastructure, regulation and digital transformation, and Indian states now appear to be moving in the same direction.
But as AI grows, questions around automation, jobs, privacy, misinformation and regulation are becoming more important than ever. Can dedicated AI ministries help India prepare for the future?

GRAP Stage-1 Imposed In Delhi As AQI Turns “Poor”
Delhi’s air quality has slipped into the “Poor” category with AQI touching 208, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to activate GRAP Stage-I across Delhi-NCR. The emergency anti-pollution plan brings stricter dust-control rules at construction sites, bans on open waste burning, intensified PUC checks, action against polluting vehicles, and tighter restrictions on industries and eateries using coal or firewood.
Authorities say AQI levels may remain in the “Poor” category in the coming days as anti-pollution measures are intensified across the NCR. Citizens have also been advised to reduce pollution-causing activities and report violations through Green Delhi and SAMEER apps.

Supreme Court’s BIG Order On Stray Dogs Across India
The Supreme Court has refused to modify its earlier stray dog directions, saying dogs picked up from public places like schools, hospitals, railway stations and bus stands must not be released back there after sterilisation or vaccination.
Calling the rising dog bite incidents a serious public safety issue, the Court said Article 21 guarantees citizens the right to move freely without fear of life-threatening attacks. The judgment also pulled up states for poor implementation of Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules and warned officials of contempt action for non-compliance.
The Court further directed States and UTs to expand sterilisation centres, ensure anti-rabies vaccine availability, and take legally permissible action against rabid or dangerous dogs.

Netherlands Returns 1,000-Year-Old Chola Plates To India | PM Modi Receives Historic Artefacts
India has received back the historic 11th-century Chola Copper Plates from the Netherlands during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit. The priceless artefacts, preserved for over a century at Leiden University, are among the most important records of the powerful Chola Empire.
Known as the Leiden Copper Plates, the collection contains inscriptions in Tamil and Sanskrit detailing Chola administration, taxation, irrigation systems, maritime trade, and diplomatic ties with Southeast Asia. The plates also record the donation of Anaimangalam village to a Buddhist vihara in Nagapattinam built by Srivijaya rulers, showcasing the Cholas’ religious harmony and global influence nearly 1,000 years ago.
The return marks a major milestone in India’s cultural heritage restoration efforts. Since 2014, thousands of stolen artefacts and ancient idols have been repatriated to India from countries including the US, Canada, Australia, and the Netherlands.

Scientists May Have Found The Real Mystery Beneath Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda Triangle mystery has fascinated the world for decades, but scientists may have now uncovered a real mystery hidden deep beneath Bermuda itself. Researchers from the Carnegie Institution for Science and Yale University discovered a rare underground geological structure beneath the island that could explain why Bermuda still remains elevated above the Atlantic Ocean even after its volcanoes went extinct more than 30 million years ago.
Using seismic waves from earthquakes, scientists found a massive buoyant rock layer beneath Bermuda that acts like a floating raft under the seafloor. The discovery could change how experts understand volcanic islands, Earth’s mantle and deep ocean geology.

Why Petrol Costs ₹10 More In Mumbai & Kolkata Than Delhi | India’s Fuel Tax Divide Explained
Why does petrol cost nearly ₹10 more in Mumbai and Kolkata compared to Delhi even though India buys crude oil centrally?
After the latest ₹3 fuel price hike, India’s fuel tax system is once again under focus. While global crude oil prices and the Iran-West Asia tensions are pushing costs higher worldwide, the biggest reason behind different petrol prices across Indian cities is actually state VAT and local taxes.
Delhi currently has one of the lowest fuel VAT rates among major metros, while Maharashtra and West Bengal impose higher taxes and additional levies. That is why petrol prices have crossed ₹106–108 per litre in cities like Mumbai and Kolkata.
India imports over 80% of its crude oil requirement, making domestic fuel prices highly sensitive to global oil shocks, the rupee-dollar exchange rate, and disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz. Yet despite the dynamic pricing system introduced in 2017, state taxation still remains the biggest factor deciding what consumers finally pay at the pump.

Scientists Discover Bacteria Growing Inside Fog And Cleaning Pollution
Scientists have discovered that fog is far more alive than we ever imagined. A new study from Arizona State University reveals that millions of bacteria inside fog droplets are not just surviving, they are actively growing, multiplying and even cleaning dangerous air pollutants like formaldehyde.
Researchers found that special bacteria called methylobacteria can break down toxic chemicals linked to smog and health risks, turning fog into a temporary airborne cleaning system. The discovery could reshape how scientists understand weather, air pollution and even climate science.
The study also raises important questions about fog harvesting for drinking water, as scientists now say fog water should be purified before use because it is actually a living ecosystem.
