Saint Patrick was a Christian missionary and bishop who is the patron Saint of Ireland. He is believed to have been born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century and was kidnapped by Irish raiders when he was 16 years old. He was taken to Ireland as a slave, but he eventually escaped and returned to Britain. After studying Christianity, Patrick felt called to return to Ireland as a missionary to spread the message of Christianity. He is credited with converting the majority of the Irish population to Christianity and establishing churches and monasteries throughout the country. He is celebrated every year on March 17th, the day of his death, as St. Patrick's Day.
