**Update, the season is no longer open. The latest post has additional information.**
Florida's recreational Atlantic Red Snapper season is 39 days this year (May 22-June 20; Oct 2-4, 9-11 and 16-18), which is a big increase over recent years. Before going out, be sure to check FWC's website for regulations. Some of the requirements are different than most of us in Florida are used to.
Recently, FWC sent out some reminders:
"Below are some reminders about the requirements to participate in this season as a private angler.
Ensure you have a recreational saltwater fishing license (unless exempt).
We encourage all participants to report their red snapper harvest via FWC’s web-based Atlantic Red Snapper Reporting System. If you are approached by an FWC biologist at the dock, please participate in the survey and allow biologists to sample your catch. If you receive an FWC survey about your fishing trips in the mail or by text or email, please complete and return this survey. Your participation in all aspects of the project will help us collect the data necessary to determine the success of state management and ensure its continuation into the future.
NOTE: If you do not intend on fishing for or keeping red snapper in the Atlantic, you are not required to declare trips or follow the program requirements. However, you will NOT be allowed to harvest and retain red snapper in the Atlantic unless you participate."
Merry Christmas! I hope you all have a chance to enjoy the holidays with friends and family. I have been on vacation enjoying the outdoors and, of course, working on videos in the evening. Thank you all for your support this year!
While we don’t have a full production crew with paid actors and props, we do have a dedication to providing our viewers with original body camera footage from various agencies across the United States… even if those agencies don’t use Axon cameras (the ones with the “body cam logo”).
Case update: We recently featured a video out of Monroe County FL with two individuals who were found to be in possession of undersize lobsters, over the 6 per person bag limit, and had no measuring device. In total, they were facing 23 misdemeanor charges. They have been adjudicated guilty on all charges.
Jeanie, the female in the video, was facing a total of 13 charges. She was sentenced to 5 days in jail, 6 months of probation, and ordered to pay a total of $2,358.00 in fines and costs.
Thomas, the male in the video, was facing a total of 10 charges. He has been sentenced to 5 days in jail, 6 months of probation, and ordered to pay a total of $1,938.00 in fines and costs.
Prior to sentencing, both completed a Florida Fishing Regulations Course and Test.
