Top 9 Free Attractions in Kyoto 🇯🇵
These are among the most worthwhile attractions in Kyoto that you can visit without paying an entrance fee.
1. Fushimi Inari Taisha
The iconic shrine famous for thousands of vermilion torii gates winding up Mount Inari. The full hike takes about 2 to 3 hours and offers excellent city views. Admission is free 24/7.
2. Arashiyama Bamboo Grove
One of Kyoto’s most photographed locations. Arrive early in the morning to avoid crowds. The bamboo pathway itself is completely free.
3. Gion
Kyoto’s historic geisha district. Wander through preserved wooden machiya houses, lantern-lined streets, and traditional tea houses. Evening walks are especially atmospheric.
4. Nishiki Market
Known as “Kyoto’s Kitchen.” Browsing is free, and many vendors offer small samples of local specialties. Great for experiencing local food culture without spending much.

9. Kamo River
