Changing composition of RBI's foreign exchange reserves!!
1. RBI increases share of gold in foreign exchange reserves from 8% to 12% in last one year.
2. RBI also cuts down share of US Treasury Securities (ie bonds issued by US Government) by about $15 billion.
3. India's total foreign exchange reserves are at a robust level of $ 690 billion.
4. This reflects larger trend of de- dollarisation of Central banks across the globe, on account of rising tariff related and geo-political uncertainties.
5. Despite the changing composition, US Treasury securities still constitute $227 billion out of $690 billion forex reserves, ie about 33% of total reserves!!
Very important Data both for prelims and mains UPSC has asked questions on this pattern earlier as well
