Would any of my followers be interested in an episode talking about watches? I'm not trying to show off and my small collection is rather humble but they do tie in to my career as a photographer and I thought it would be a fun story.

I recently had the honor of appearing on Het Perfecte Plaatje in the Netherlands, giving advice to the contestants and sharing how I approach documenting sensitive stories, including my work with victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam.

Since then, Dutch viewers have been sending me the kindest messages and following my work. What moves me most is that so many of you connected with the people in those photographs and the stories they carry.

Thank you for caring about this work. Bedankt Nederland.

I want to tell you about Alexis.

She came to me with less photography experience than most people reading this. She was a true beginner,, but she wanted to improve as long as it took. She worked with me one on one in my mentorship for a full year, and that work led to her photo story going live with We Animals. She can call herself a published photographer, pretty darn cool.

Go look. It is quiet and it hits hard. When she started she would have said she was nowhere near ready. She made it anyway.
The way she got there was simple. She picked a subject, went back once a week, shot it, we reviewed honestly, she adjusted, she went back again. The intimidation never left, imposter syndrome was always present, but I guided her and reassured her. She just stopped letting it make her decisions.
If you have a project you keep circling but never start, that is the wall. The fix is people in your corner telling you what is working and pushing you to go back. That is what my AskMott community and mentorship are built for.
You are more ready than Alexis was. Start.

For years I've been told photographers age differently.
Now I finally know why.
Most photographers spend thousands protecting their lenses but leave their shooting eye completely exposed to the elements. Sunlight. Dust. Long editing sessions. Looking through an EVF for 12 hours straight.
Introducing the Justin Mott Ageless Eye™.
Designed to preserve your shooting eye while off assignment so it remains fresh, youthful, and ready for decades of decisive moments.
I'm 48 years old.
My shooting eye is 22.
Pre-orders opening never.

When you’re an American photographer but you’ve lived in Vietnam for 20 years and you’ve picked up a few traits like the “local squat.”
Being filmed for an upcoming special on VTV ,
hope this makes it into the final cut
