🗣 Bryan Mbeumo on the end of the game:

"Yeah, that was a big drama, but yeah, at the end we managed to come back in the game, and yeah, as I said, if we can't win, don't lose."

"We knew that it was going to be hard in the second half, obviously they were going to push.

"But since before the first goal we conceded, I think we played a very good game, very solid.

"So I think we still have to work a bit on the goals we conceded."

on what was said before De Ligt's equaliser:

"I tried to talk to the guys and tell them to stay in the game because it's still five minutes to go and we know in a football game everything can happen.

"I think we all have a very strong mentality right now to come back and that's what we've done."

on five games unbeaten:

"I think it builds the confidence, obviously. When we don't lose, it's always easier on the pitch, outside the pitch, in the training ground. So, everyone is enjoying a lot and we're going to try to build this as long as possible."

On he looks like he's playing and having fun at #mufc:

Yeah. It's a lovely place to play, to develop, and I've got great teammates who are helping me, obviously, and I think everyone is working really hard, and I think it makes the job for everyone easier.."

🚨 NEW: After a 4-0 hammering to Crystal Palace on May 14, 2024, Manchester United's chiefs all agreed the team needed a new manager.

They studied coaches who had Premier League experience and liked a 4-3-3 system. They picked six options: Tuchel, Pochettino, De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, Marco Silva, and Graham Potter. Tuchel and De Zerbi stood out the most.

They met Tuchel, who impressed them, but he wanted a short break after a hard time at Bayern Munich and wasn't ready for the job.

De Zerbi became their top choice. They offered him fair terms, but he turned it down, and United chose not to make a better offer.

Ruben Amorim wasn't on the main list because he lacked English experience. But his name (and Thiago Motta's) kept popping up when technical director Jason Wilcox talked to agents and coaches about rising stars.

Jason Wilcox contacted Amorim and thought he was excellent, but felt the move to United might be too big a step for him.

United then decided to stick with Erik ten Hag. Just over two weeks after winning the FA Cup, they told him he'd stay on. They extended his contract to boost his authority with players, but only if he replaced most of his coaching staff—which he agreed to.

That summer's player signings were based on chances that came up, as new bosses were still settling in and money was tight.

By October, after bad results, the club believed Ten Hag wouldn't succeed. They felt it was safer to change now than in June, since the team behind the scenes was more stable.

CEO Omar Berrada used his old contacts from Manchester City to reach Amorim's agent, Raul Costa, and Sporting officials. Amorim's release clause was €10 million, and he was open to talks.

United's leaders—Ratcliffe, Brailsford, Berrada, Wilcox, and Ashworth—met Amorim in Spain in late October for the first time.

The meeting lasted five hours. Amorim shared his detailed tactics: he prefers a three-defender setup but can adapt. He stressed needing flexible players who can switch systems.

Everyone was wowed by his charm, smarts in tactics and emotions, how he talks to young and older players, and his use of videos.

They viewed him as a 3- to 4-year project, but the timing wasn't perfect. He kept asking, "Why now? Why not end of the season?"

United knew starting mid-season might hurt short-term results, but saw it as a smart long-term move. It would let Amorim learn the team, club, and league early.

Berrada later said: "If Ruben started on July 1, 2025, we wouldn't have this knowledge, right? That's how I feel about the seven or eight months he spent in the Premier League and the struggles in it. This will benefit us a lot in the future."

🗣️ Rene Meulensteen on why he thinks United are in the Premier League title race:

"Man Utd are only six points behind Arsenal. Yes, people get blindsided by how poor of a start United had but they are starting to gain momentum. I can see them beating Forest and Spurs and suddenly that's five [wins] in a row and they start to look stronger and stronger.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are settling in. Sesko is going to get his minutes on the clock. They're finding their way bit-by-bit and confidence will grow. They've got no midweek games, no midweek stress. They don't have to do a lot of squad rotation. They will grow and grow and grow.

I’m telling you, Man Utd could be a surprise package who find themselves in second place soon and suddenly people will be saying what’s going on here and a completely different level of belief kicks in. Not only for the players but the manager as well, and the fans, and United are this force to be reckoned with again that everybody is looking at slightly differently.

“They might not say it themselves, and they might not believe it yet, but I honestly think they can do it."

UNITED ROAR

🗣️ Ruben Amorim:

"We must go to Europe for all sorts of reasons. Our club must be present in Europe. Kobbie Mainoo needs more matches so that I can do some rotation, because with one match per week, it's really difficult. I have to take out one of the players who is playing to bring in another.

When we have more matches, we can spread it out, we can manage the group differently. We use the time we have to be a better team to be ready for the European matches. The goal doesn't change: we must go to Europe. Being in the top 4 is really difficult, but you never know, we just have to focus on the next match."

🗣️ Ruben Amorim on his system:

"I don’t see it as a 3-4-3. The foundation of the idea is a 3-4-3. When you know how you want to play, it’s easy to know what kind of players you need. I try to use that to find the right players for this style of play."

on if he ever thought he wouldn't reach a year in charge of Manchester United: "I had some moments that I struggled a lot and I was thinking that maybe it's not meant to be. Today is the opposite, I feel that, and I know that, that was the best decision in my life, and I want to be here."
