Carly Crow- My final scarecrow sculpture. I spent the last year inbetween projects sculpting this piece by hand to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of The Scarecrow; a piece that seems to have unexpectedly resonated with people over the years. I remember when I first drew The Scarecrow while riding the train to work in 2014. Then I came back to the drawing months later and started sculpting him. The sculpture debuted at my first solo exhibition Lost Magic in 2016 and the making-of video somehow reached 300 million views across platforms. I always felt that showing the process of a piece being created was sometimes more of an art piece than the finished piece itself, so I was very happy that so many people got to see that video. The character later went on to become a vinyl toy, a series of resin replicas, shoes, a 100 foot animatronics, and many other iterations. I always imagined there would be a stop motion film for him and the world and around him but life is short and sometimes you need to move on and start fresh. As the ten year anniversary was approaching I wanted to do one last take on this character. One that’s not quite the same but still has a similar feeling of wonder and adventure. A more confident, heroic lady version named Carly came to mind. I spent the last year bringing this idea to life, self producing figurines of Carly all the while sculpting a large, realistic version to go along with it. I really enjoy sculpting scarecrows and sometimes feel like one myself, but I don’t want to be known for just that. This piece will be my last Scarecrow sculpture and I hope to open some new chapters soon. Thank you all for watching ✨🎃🐦‍⬛
