BackaBuddy is South Africa’s crowdfunding platform.
We help people fundraise for real needs through a system designed to make giving:
• Clear
• Safe
• Repeatable
• Human
On this channel, we explain how fundraising and crowdfunding work, share real stories, and show how people come together to support one another.
This is not about urgency or pressure. It is about participation, trust, and community over time.

On days when South Africa feels tense, community matters even more.
The way we speak, share, listen and show up for one another can either create more fear or help people feel seen, safe and supported.
At BackaBuddy, we see every day that compassion becomes powerful when it turns into practical action.
When South Africa feels divided, what do you think helps communities move forward with dignity?

REBUILDING "DIE HEL": A Story of True South African Grit and the Power of Crowdfunding
What do you do when a natural disaster cuts your community off from the rest of the world, destroys your roads, and wipes out your income? If you are a "Klower" from Gamkaskloof, you pick up a shovel.
For over a month, Pieter Joubert and his team have been doing the impossible. Much of the severe flood damage to the Gamkaskloof road has been repaired entirely by hand, moving massive boulders, clearing dangerous rockslides on Elands Pass, and filling deep washouts stone by stone, wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow.
Progress has been slow and physically grueling, but their determination has been unwavering.
Disaster recovery is a long road, and no single family can walk it alone. That is why crowdfunding is so vital. Thanks to the incredible kindness of people across South Africa, the BackaBuddy campaign recently crossed the R200,000 milestone! This community funding gave the family the backing they needed to secure a loan for a TLB (backhoe loader) to permanently base in the valley for long-term flood recovery.
While the machinery is a massive win, the valley has been isolated and without income for over 30 days. The Joubert family continues to support their employees and families who depend on them, while facing mounting costs for diesel, equipment, and ongoing rebuilding.

Nelson Mandela
This Youth Day, we honor the young people who stood up for change, and we recognise the young South Africans still carrying hope, courage, and possibility forward.
Let’s keep creating opportunities for them to be seen, heard, and supported.

Happy Saturday, South Africa! 🇿🇦✨ While we enjoy the weekend, many in our community are reaching for hope.
At BackaBuddy, we know that "changing the world" happens in the quiet moments. It’s the R100 donation instead of a takeaway or that one private WhatsApp share that changes a life trajectory.
If you’re running a campaign right now, remember: You have a community behind you.
The #PowerOfOne Challenge:
Find one story on our site that moves you and share it privately with a friend today. That single act tells the world this story matters.

One of the most powerful things you can do for your campaign?
Share it personally.
People are far more likely to donate when a campaign is shared by someone they trust. Personal messages, WhatsApp shares, and one-on-one conversations often work better than posting a link alone.
Sharing builds connection, not pressure.

No polished video. No detailed visuals.
Neil's campaign has raised R307 333, reaching 102% of the R300 000 goal in
9 days, with 44 donors showing up.
Before anything else: this is a meaningful reminder of what people do when someone is facing something as serious as cancer treatment. Every donation is a decision to respond with compassion and practical support and that deserves to be recognised.
There’s also a lesson here for anyone trying to fundraise right now (whether you’re an individual, an NPO, or a community group).
What this tells us
🟣 Trust travels faster than “perfect content.”
🟣 Your network is your launchpad. Momentum starts with the people closest to the story, then it spreads outward.
